Not so. SMB2, Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story don't require you to rescue a princess. Punch-Out!, Kirby, Star Fox, Metroid, etc. also don't have you saving damsels in distress. It's mainly centered around Mario titles and much of the Zelda series. Link's Awakening, from what I recall, had nothing to do with rescuing Zelda. Still a magnificent game, btw.
Princess Peach is just STUPID.

I've been playing Mario on 3DS and so far I don't really have much of a problem with it save for the super-easy difficulty. The tried-and-true play mechanics hit the spot, at least they do for me, but then I'm not expecting every new Mario game to be some sort of revolutionary product. The last true breakthrough moment for Mario was Super Mario 64 -- every subsequent release has for the most part been a reiteration/mash-up of various styles and concepts employed in previous entries. It's unashamedly Mario and, I suppose, that's both good and bad.

Joe, in the Famicom version of Altered Beast, you have to press up while in the air to do a high jump. Bam! Apparently that version has 3 new levels, not just one.
Just played the PCE Hu-Card port and dang, the second boss seems to be completely impossible to beat. There's no way to dodge or defeat enough eyes to avoid taking damage.

You've gotta play the PCE CD version of Altered Beast (I now have a System Card 1.0 thanks to the Turbo Everdrive). It has a much more reasonable difficulty.

I actually do own the CD version, so I'll probably give it a go via emulation.
Speaking of which, here's the article I wrote on the PCE Altered Beasts today. Not nearly as funny as yours, but I did borrow one of your screenshots since I didn't reach level 2 with 2 players. |

Cool article. That also reminded me to check out your Double Dragon Neon review again since we had a Double Dragon extravaganza on Game Sack this week.

Kirby dream land got the best story ever. i mean the evil king stole the whole planet food, whats worst and more important than that?!
and the twist that the evil king being actually a fake king is just pure genius. It still blow's my mind today. |

I just looked back at your review of Mario 3D Land. I kind of forgot that of all the negative things your threw at this game, you still gave it a decent score of 7.5/10. Did I miss some of the good things you said about that game?
