WWE changes its tune regarding Kurt Angle's departure
After treating Kurt Angle's WWE departure in an optimistic fashion, the company changed its tune in a new message to fans. According to Keith Lipinsk, WWE sent the following via its Mobile Alerts program: "According to sources, the meeting between WWE Execs & Kurt Angle was heated & confrontational. Angle was an emotional wreck departing WWE Titan Tower." It remains to be seen why WWE is no longer attempting to protect Kurt Angle's image in its stories about the release. ------------------ Official statement from Kurt Angle It's long so i'll post the link link |

ECW News: WWE/Sci-Fi Deal Reached
As expected, WWE and Sci-Fi reached a deal to renew ECW on the cable station. Vince McMahon and NBC Universal's Bonnie Hammer reached a deal earlier today. Terms of the new deal are not available at the moment. The ECW show will remain on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. There will also be a replay showing - Hammer will determine when that replay airs. The new deal will be publicly announced later this week. Sci-Fi initially projected ECW to do a 1.4 rating, but the show has exceeded expectations as it has averaged a 2.3 rating during the first 12 weeks. Next article..... It appears as though that ECW will be around for the long haul. The Sci-Fi Channel announced today tha it will keep its new hit program, ECW, on the network through at least the end of 2007. More specifically, Linda McMahon said at today's WWE first quarter quarterly earnings press conference that ECW will remain on the Sci-Fi Channel until at least December 2007. Here is the official press release: SCI FI CHANNEL EXTENDS ECW New York, N.Y., August 31, 2006 - SCI FI Channel today announced it will keep its new hit program, ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling), on the network through at least the end of 2007. ECW is produced by World Wrestling Entertainment?, the producer of the No. 1 weekly basic cable TV series, "Monday Night RAW" on USA Network. ECW debuted on SCI FI as a summer series in June on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT, providing an alternative brand of wrestling suited to fit the Channel's commitment to fuel the imagination. The program met with immediate success, with its premiere attracting more than 1.8 million new viewers to SCI FI; 43% of the ECW's premiere audience had not watched the SCI FI Channel during the prior 4 weeks. The debut also set a Channel record for a series premiere attracting 1.07 million viewers 18-34, the most ever in the demographic. ECW has remained consistent throughout its summer run, averaging about 2.7 million viewers and ranking as one of SCI FI's highest rated weekly programs. It has consistently been one of the top-rated programs in primetime on Tuesday among male teens and one of the top-rated cable programs in households. Possible WWE Returns There is talk of WWE bringing back the Too Cool team, with Rikishi and Brian Lawler. There has also been talk of adding Ron Killings to the mix sometime down the line. I already know what you're going to say. Carlito Upset, Updates On Joey Mercury & Great Khali Carlito has been upset as of late. He feels as though that WWE hasn't been playing up to his strengths. Also, WWE reportedly told him to "act like The Rock." There was a chance that he was going to move up to the main event scene, but those plans seem to be on hold for the time being. Joey Mercury, who has been off the road since the end of May, is currently in the "outpatient" portion of his rehab process. He's finally out of the rehab center, but he's rehabbing at home now. The Great Khali needs surgery on both of his knees and he will be out of action for quite some time. We probably haven't see the last of him as there has been some talk of bringing him back as a babyface when he is healthy enough to return to action. WWE really is hittin for hard times. |

Chris Benoit may be back by next weekend, as he's being advertised for the September 9th houseshow in West Palm Beach, FL. Benoit would be returning after healing up some lingering injuries and to be with his wife (former WCW manager, Woman) recover from a surgical procedure herself. Benoit, in the storyline sense, was put "out of action" by Mark Henry. However, Henry has since been injuried himself and that revenge angle is now out the window.

Extensive inside update on Angle's WWE release, Wrestling future
More notes regarding Kurt Angle's WWE release, as reported by the Wrestling Observer:
After losing his title at WrestleMania, Kurt Angle adamantly began pushing WWE management to get the title back. While that did not initially play out, he continued pushing hard to make sure he remained a top star. He pushed Brian Gewirtz to be added to the Vengeance PPV, and, at one point, was actually scheduled to defeat Randy Orton. But, when news of his drug test failure came out (due to having an expired prescription for a drug he took), WWE quickly jobbed him out and suspended him for thirty days. Vince McMahon gave Kurt Angle a stern warning after learning of his drug policy violation; following that, sources say things began getting messy. Kurt Angle would constantly call, email and text message WWE officials and wrestlers. Some say half the messages were senseless, while half were perfectly coherent. He was brought back immediately at the end of his suspension only because ECW needed a big star to return. The ECW lockerroom quickly turned on him due to his "impossible" behavior, which included telling an agent that when he accidentally dropped RVD on his head during a match, it was actually RVD's fault. He would have another confrontation with RVD based on something he said in the ring during one of their matches. Angle also petitioned very hard to be added to the Summerslam card. His campaigning worked, as the original plan was to make the ECW Championship bout a four-way. But, following his groin injury at the 8/13 house show, Vince McMahon pulled him from the Summerslam card. On August 21, Angle called Johnny Ace and said he was being wheeled through the airport. He said his massage therapist claimed he had a torn abdominal muscle. Vince reportedly made a decision at this time to both set up an MRI and, if necessary, fire Angle. Kurt Angle was released from his contract (and given some money) on 8/25. Terms of his release remain unclear. Some of the major non-WWE wrestling names (All Japan, NOAH and TNA) expressed immediate interest in Angle upon learning of his release. While he could very well wrestle for another promotion (which would upset WWE, both as a company and as an entity looking out for Angle's health), a bigger fear on WWE's part is that he'll take a job with an MMA promotion and put his health in further danger. ----------- Current Champions RAW WWE- Edge Intercontinental- Johnny Nitro Woman's- Lita World Tag Team- Spirit Squad SMACKDOWN World Heavyweight- King Booker U.S.- Mr. Kennedy Cruiserweight- Gregory Helms WWE Tag Team- Brian Kendrick & Paul London |

In a strange story, IndiaEnews.com has reported that Great Khali has been suspended from his job as an assistant sub-inspector with the Punjab Armed Police in India. The reason he is suspended is because he has been working for World Wrestling Entertainment in the States.

WWE apologizes for Steve Irwin remark, More on the comment
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon issued an apology for a remark Matt Striker made regarding Steve Irwin's death on Tuesday's ECW.
"We at WWE apologize for the remark alluding to the death of Steve Irwin which was made on ECW on Sci Fi Tuesday night. The remark was, in the least, disrespectful to Mr. Irwin's fans and family," McMahon said on WWE.com Thursday. During a promo in which he distanced himself from "dumb jocks," Striker said that fans would never catch him swimming with stingrays, referencing a stingray's role in Irwin's death. PWInsider reports that Brian Gewirtz scripted the line and had it approved by Vince McMahon. Last edited by JBL; 09-07-2006 at 09:00 PM. |
