Sad IPOD story :(

The creator of IPOD, the most successfull portable music playing device on the market, makes many millions of dollars a year. Weird thing is, when Apple was just about to go bankrupt, and they hired the guy to design IPOD to save them, 3 months before the IPOD got onto the market, the guy died of liver cancer. He never saw a dime. Sort of a cruel joke from god eh??

Well they weren't about to go bankrupt, that's for sure.

I doubt that's a true story.

Even if the creator is alive, (note: iPids is made by the design team, not a single person) they wouldn't see a dime of it anyway. Their job is to make Apple money. They may get a pay raise for a good job but the most they would realistically get is a "good job now keep working on it". Thats big business.

Nah dude he was a seperate software programmer, they just hired him and he hand't sold the idea yet. So his deal was he'd make 50 percent of the earnings, which is a good amount of millions of dollars now, but the thing is he died before he saw any dime LMAO sorta funny but really sad. And Apple was facing bankruptcy because it was losing too many shares to Microsoft... Microsoft kills everything! Stupid microsoft! And yet I still enjoy their software... meh.

Thats completely bogus.
It would take a whole team of engineers to build an iPod, even to cater to his design. On top of that, good advertising was required to take the iPod to its current level, along with the brilliant idea of iTunes (Though I hate it.)

On other words, one man didnt make the iPod. Maybe he had the idea of a portable mp3 player, as there were many on the market before the iPod, but his would have a greater amount of memory, and a wheel.

And without an article, there is no proof.

I think what he's trying to say is that he designed it but a group built it.

Hi. Excuse me, but what the **** are you talking about?

History and Design
Quote:
The iPod came from Apple's digital hub strategy, as the company began creating software for the growing market of digital devices purchased by consumers. While digital cameras, camcorders and organizers had well-established markets, the company found digital music players lacking in quality and decided to develop its own.

Hardware design of the 3rd generation iPod.

Tony Fadell, a former Philips executive in the company's Windows CE division, left Philips to create a hard drive-based MP3 player and music service [1]. He founded a company, Fuse, to develop and sell the idea to major media companies. After RealNetworks turned him down, Apple accepted and the development of the iPod began.

Uncharacteristically, Apple decided not to develop the iPod's hardware or software in-house. Instead, Apple contracted with PortalPlayer, who already had a reference design (based on 2 ARM CPUs) with rudimentary software running on top of a Pixo-developed operating system. PortalPlayer had been working on an IBM-branded MP3 player with Bluetooth headphones, but dropped it to work with Apple.[1]

The PortalPlayer reference design was approximately the size of a cigarette pack and had an array of buttons on the front, resembling an FM pocket radio. Apple refined the user interface under the direct supervision of Steve Jobs.

The biggest changes Apple made to the software were fixing bugs and adding a new user interface based on a central scroll wheel. The PortalPlayer reference design also did not support playlists longer than ten songs and had no equalizer.

Replacing the Chicago font once used on the original Macintosh computers, the iPod mini used a different font called Espy Sans, which was originally used in eWorld and Copland. The most recent iPods have switched fonts again to Myriad, Apple's new official corporate font. With the iPod photo, aqua-like progress bars were adopted in addition to other Aqua features like brushed metal in the FM tuner and lock.

Development began in February 2001 (one month after iTunes was released) and was announced to the public on 23 October 2001 as a Mac-compatible product with a 5 GB hard drive that put "1000 songs in your pocket."

Quote:
Anthony Fadell is Apple Computer's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, having succeeded Jon Rubinstein in 2006.

Fadell graduated from University of Michigan with a BS in Computer Engineering in 1991. While still at Michigan, he was CEO of Constructive Instruments, which marketed MediaText, multimedia composition software for children. He worked for Apple spinoff General Magic for three years, starting in 1992 as a diagnostics engineer and progressing to a systems architect, where he was responsible for the development of a number of technologies and devices including the Sony MagicLink and Motorola Envoy. In 1995 he was hired by Philips where he was co-founder, Chief Technology Officer, and Director of Engineering in the Mobile Computing Group, which developed a number of Windows CE-based handheld devices, notably the Philips Velo and Nino.

During the 1990s, Fadell started his own company called Fuse to develop the "Dell of the Consumer Electronics." One of the devices he had in mind was a small hard disk-based music player. Fuse failed, however, to find a second round of funding, and Fadell started exploring developing the product at other companies. He first approached RealNetworks in 2000 but left after only six weeks. The second company he approached was Apple.

He started working for Apple from February 2001 as a contractor designing the iPod and planning Apple's audio product strategy. In April 2001 he was hired by Apple to assemble and run its iPod & Special Projects group, where he has overseen the design and production of the iPod and iSight devices. He was promoted to vice president of iPod engineering in 2004. On October 14, 2005, Apple announced that Fadell would replace the retiring Jon Rubinstein as Senior Vice President of the iPod Division on March 31, 2006. [1]

Fadell is also a member of the Phi Chapter of Psi Upsilon Fraternity at The University of Michigan.

Fadell is an alumnus of Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

Please lock yourself in a closet or large safe, and never come out again. Have fun!
