No doubt Rare would be upset at seeing someone make a better game with zero budget then their POS xbox360 sequel. Just the same way those retards over at Square cancelled that groups remake of Chrono Trigger, which looked brilliant.

Because the characters, music, names, gameplay ect are all legally owned by Square. They wouldn't have done anything if the project wasn't so popular. But when it did become popular Square shut them down. You know, in case they want to remake the game themselves on day and charge $70 a copy.

Remakes are tricky things. Intellectual property laws and whatnot.

Still, it's possible that enough stuff will be different that all will be OK...for the PC mod release, anyway.
