Medal of Honour title announced

Extremely happy with this. Pacific Assault was one of the best fps games in the last decade. At least this one should be longer then MW2, which is pretty much taking the piss by being 1 game, releasing the first half to make money and then the second half later. Awesome game but fucking come on.

Quote:
Medal of Honor returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war. For the first time in the franchise’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan. Electronic Arts Inc. today revealed that in 2010, Medal of Honor, an all-new first-person shooter game, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle. The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Set against the backdrop of a rugged and brutal landscape, Medal of Honor depicts modern military operations through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today’s most elite soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.

Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly. To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience of Medal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set and re-boot the franchise for a new generation.

Actually there were plenty of modern style games before MW came out. But there were only 2 really good WW2 style games out there. COD and MOH. The rest were snorefests and still are.

Medal of Honor. Yay! Heroes 2 was probably the only Wii FPS (at least I've played) which handled well.

But I'm sad that they're moving away from WW2. =( As long as the gameplay is fine, I dont really arse at where it is going to be set. Set it in Glasgow on a Friday night for all I care. But I will miss the good ol' Thompson.

I have the same problem with this as I had with Modern Warfare.

Games about wars in which soldiers are currently losing lives crosses an unacceptable line.

rubbish ..

try telling my royal marine cousin that .. all the armed forces guys i know in the marines fucking LOVE MW . so much so they have bloody US vs UK clan league tables over there.

if the guys over there see MW for what it is .. just a video game then i fail to se why anyone with nothing to do with the conflict would be bothered about it TBH ..

I played MW 1 at my sister's place. (Brother in law had it)

Actually had to turn it off. I felt like I was playing Blackwater - The Game.

It's not the violence that bothers me, but I just find this very, very distasteful.

Can't explain it tbh, just a gut reaction.

It seems like exploitation to me.

Btw, thanks for actually asking *why* I think like that, rather than just telling me I'm wrong and calling me names.

I get what you're going on about Einhander. Looking at it from a certain angle it can very well seem like it. But I think its important to not link those sorts of games with reality. They're not meant to be looked at from that perspective. Otherwise every games where someone dies can be considered tasteless. WW2 games were no exception. Especially since they were set in real periods unlike MW games which are not even close to reality. They're more action movies you can interact with.

I think the difference is that WWII, even Vietnam now, are far enough removed in history that a game wouldn't really be treading on soldiers.

If soldiers are cool with it, so be it.

I wasn't, it's just a personal thing from playing Modern Warfare 1. Just didn't feel right.

Wasn't the first Call of Duty made by people that left the team that made Medal of Honor?

Einhander: I like how your answer to "why you think like that" is "Can't explain it, gut reaction."

I don't understand your comparison. Maybe if the game was called Iraq/ Afghan War and was actually about real life, then I would understand your point of view. But Modern Warfare 2 has nothing to do with those. They were making "Modern" war games in the 90's when we weren't in any war, so what is the difference now? And how can a game about WW2 be ok and not Modern Warfare 2, since WW2 was a real event and MW2 is fiction with modern weapons and technology. By your "logic" it is ok to make a war game if it uses old guns but not new guns, since soldiers today use those guns. By your "logic" any game with an M16 or modern military tech, like Metal Gear Solid, Command and Conquer, etc are exploiting our soldiers. So how old does the military weaponry have to be so that its ok? You mentioned vietnam as being ok, so I guess somewhere after 1975 you can't use that technology in military games. Sometimes you need to take these gut feelings and ignore them. I think your confusing the use of current era military weaponry and tech with the two current wars. Just because they use the same weapons doesn't mean the game is about Iraq or afghanistan, which their not.
