Devil May Cry director: if people want to see Dante in Super Smash Bros., his series should be on Switch first

Dante, like Bayonetta, is a character a lot of people want to see in just about any action crossover. He has such a huge arsenal of moves at this point that a team would have to even pare him down, allowing for all sorts of technical chicanery. But in case you were hoping that the demon hunter would be one of the upcoming secret Smash Ultimate characters: it looks like that isn't the case, at least according to Devil May Cry 5 director Hideaki Itsuno.

Speaking to VG247, Istuno notes that in order for Dante to guest star in the Smash series, Devil May Cry needs to be on a Nintendo platform (DMC has historically been a PlayStation-centric franchise before jumping to PC and Xbox over time). He even accepts the disparity between Cloud's appearance as Final Fantasy has a history with Nintendo (not to mention that technically Final Fantasy 7 is Switch-bound now, making it even more official). As Itsuno puts it: "Well, that’s the thing. Devil May Cry has never been on a Nintendo platform. So it seems like the first thing to do would be to get Capcom to put Devil May Cry on a Nintendo platform in some way, shape or form – whatever game that might be."

So...the Devil May Cry HD Collection then? Maybe if Capcom can make it happen Dante can sneak in for a potential Fighter's Pass 2. If that happened he would be the only character to appear in both PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Smash (albeit under different incarnations, as we can only assume Smash would use classic Dante).

There is of course a strong chance that Heihachi Mishima could take that crown, especially given that Tekken loves crossovers and Bandai Namco co-developed Ultimate. Given Snake's involvement, Metal Gear Solid's Raiden is a distinct possibility as well as Smash DLC. Okay now I'm talking too much about PlayStation All-Stars, a game only I care about.
