Dragon Quest creator comments on Dragon Quest XII: “Still many years away”

The younger generation don't know these games well enough, sales will keep falling.

Dragon Quest creator comments on Dragon Quest XII: “Still many years away”

Horii wants the systems to be as well-received as Dragon Quest XI's story.

Dragon Quest game designer Yuji Horii commented on a potential Dragon Quest XII during a panel at the computer entertainment developers conference CEDEC + KYUSHU 2018 on December 1.

Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino, who moderated the panel, asked Horii, “How is the 12th entry going?”

Horii responded, “I actually already came up with the keywords, but I can’t say anything here. (Laughs.)”

The game designer added, “However, since Dragon Quest XI‘s scenario was well-received, this time I want the same reception for the gameplay systems, but I could also surprise everyone and make it an epic. Now I just feel like teasing everyone. (Laughs.).”

Furthermore, Horii said, “I keep absentmindedly thinking about making the theme the feeling of ‘wanting to make dreams come true.'”

Likely discussing the topic more than he should, Horii closed by saying that a Dragon Quest XII is “still many years away.”

Thanks, Famitsu and Games Talk.

This last year i got DQ7, 8 on 3DS and 11 on the PS4. Only one i started so far is 7 (wich i really liked). I have time.

DQXI just came out, theres the 3DS games and the Dragon quest heroes sub series. There is no shortage of DQ games to get. If you make it an anual or bi-anual thing, it will lose quality.
Theres the switch port as well. I'm sure the series won't phase out that easily.

Also, i'm pretty sure DQXI was the series best seller to date. It's no FF numbers, but it's growing.

Maybe they can do that single player version of 10 as well.
