I will tell you when it's done, I couldn't do it last night cause by the time the download was done and i figured out how to get it on a usb drive, I realized that my USB drive was too small for it! So I have to go buy a 8 gig one today. You need at least completely 4 gigs, and not just a 4 gig usb drive. So since they take some of he space on there, I was under by a few hundred megs.

I'm kind of excited to do this also, since netbooks suck donkey balls with their so slowness with windows 7 and since this uses half of those resources, I'm hoping to get more from the netbook now.

fuck glad I didn't pay for one, I hate netbooks.

really??? ubuntu is as small and functional os as you can get .. i'll say the netbook is the issue tbh .. win8 will leave a bigger foot print and be more resource hungry thats for sure

Yep, swapping out Win7 for Ubuntu was a good move. I've got no intention of going to Windows 8 on my netbook.

Almost done installing. For some stupid reason the netbook had like 6 million partitions, showing the same free memory.

Windows 7 ran like shit on netbooks, lag even just opening Chrome on it, so I will be able to tell a improvement that's for sure when it's done.

I didn't have a choice on it

I'm login now through the netbook running windows 8, no problems so far but the tablet screen is the new windows start button on the task bar so when you click that it opens it, instead of the other options like control panel, programs, ect.

loads WAYYYYYY faster than windows 7 starter. barely any lag. everything else is just windows 7. Which is good.

edit, yah this OS is really well made so far, I'm loading/download/installing things all at once on a 1.66 ghz atom CPU with only 1 gig of ram in the net book and it's still running stuff without problem, just tiny lag for 1 sec and it loads it up again.

the tablet screen is weird, it won't load up anything when I click on them, only GO TO DESKTOP tab works on it.

nvm, just found out if the res is too small, they won't load any apps.... which sucks.

They also need to fix where you shutdown the computer from. Logging off and then unlocking to get to the shut down options are kind of annoying.

Everything gets pushed. Even vista got pushed hard and everyone stuck with XP. Win7 is too new to just discard. This is specifically made for the laptops/tablets. But if its better then 7 then theres no reason not to upgrade to it anyway.

I just want the real start menu to come back! Since the metro UI is useless on netbooks. Otherwise, this is a great OS, it's actually extending the use of the netbook and making it run faster. Less hiccups than ever before.

Yes, we have the exact same netbook. You should get another 1G of RAM onto it though, it can support it. I upgraded it to 2GB RAM; cheap as hell, got a Kingston 2GB for 15, and with Ubuntu, is a pretty fast, nifty little thing now.
