Thats you not wanting to look up any news or want to know anything. If I ignore everything said about the Iphone and say omg I know nothing about it (which is pretty true) there must be zero marketing, thats not exactly accurate is it.

Hey...so is there a point in getting the Home Pro over the Ultimate? I don't think I'd use any of the features found in Ultimate but I think people more akin to Windows would know...

While I'm not too familiar with those ultimate extra features at the bottom, I dont think they'd be very important for every day noobs like us. But I'd definitely go nothing under Pro.

Well that's the thing. I don't know of anyone talking about it...at all, and I'm a computer science major, that's what we do. When Vista came out, a lot of people I knew were talking about it constantly. Windows 7. Nothing. I had another paragraph, but deleted it because I don't want to continue talking about it.

Yeah, I heard a lot about it on every single gaming forum I visit. All two of them.

Reko8, it's not our fault if you're just out of the loop. It's been discussed here plenty, as well as many gaming and tech sites.

Anyway, it should be noted that this deal is for the digital version of the OS, not a physical copy. I suppose if you download it to a fairly secure hard drive, it should still be there if you need it again.

Damn...you know.....Remote Desktop Host, I assume, is the ability to control that computer with another. That is something I'd really like to do. Damn you Microsoft, I guess I'll be uhh...acquiring this another way...

Normally I hate buying upgrade versions. I never feel like I'm doing a "fresh" install and that various bits of crap are going to be left over from my previous OS that I don't need or want. I don't trust them...

But at that kind of price, it's so tempting...

The upgrade thing is really no different to the full version. The only difference with the upgrade it checks your pc to see if you have a legitimate windows OS on already. If it does then it goes ahead with a system wipe and installs the new windows. The normal win7 packs dont need to check. They just destroy everything.

Not quite, the upgrade will preserve a lot of your files. If I have a folder full of mp3s, that folder will still be there after the upgrade. It doesn't do a full wipe, that's why I don't trust it. I'll wipe it myself, install Vista, then do the upgrade from there without anything else. But even then I don't trust the upgrade to catch everything...

I'm upgrading from windows xp so it's a full format, but you're correct, with vista it saves alot of stuff.

@ DS, unless you need the language pack ultimate offers, go pro. The main thing is XP mode which pro/ulti offers and regular editions don't. If you look at the stuff pro doesn't include (besides the language packs) it's fluff for your average user.

It looks like you can do a full wipe even with the upgrade version if you are using Vista. You just need to do the custom install option. I think I'm going to make the jump to running on a 64-bit OS, and since my Vista version is 32-bit, I would have to full wipe. This way I can look to upgrade my RAM in the future without any worries. 3gigs of RAM is such an odd number...

Forget that university upgrade program business. Here's a way better deal:

http://www.your360connection.com/index.html

You can get the full version (not upgrade-only) of Windows 7 Home for $30 or Ultimate for $40. It's download-only, so burn it to a disc just in case. I bought one from them and can vouch that it works.
