Hopefully the file transfers, that is my biggest problem with Vista so far. It took minutes to transfer things that take seconds on XP.

I'm going to give it another chance (unlike most who didnt even give it one). I really want to like Vista, I love the ideas behind it and what its trying to do. However the first attempt was just too buggy to use.

I think alot of the networking stuff was fixed. And yeah, vista is pretty cool. Theres alot of unfounded hate driven towards it. I mess with it all the time at work and while its a bit tricky to get used to, its alot better. More stable, more smooth, just more. And its fine with games.

Holy shit. I've been saying that for some time but no one seemed to believe me. Maybe now that you've said it people will quit with their needless bashing.

I have only a few issues with Vista that I hope are resolved with this patch:

-No matter my network settings, file sharing over a LAN is spotty.
-Vista hates my Network Card
-Vista hates my Sound Card
-About once a day Windows Explorer has to restart (not a problem, just annoying)

Hopefully Home Premium will now be nice and talk to other computers like all other versions.

Vista is to XP as ME is to '98

It is definitely not more stable or secure than XP - at least not for now. Part of the problem therein lies in the fact that Microsoft rushed it to release when they internally knew that there were significant problems with it. In fact, Vista Service Pack 1 was being developed before Vista was released. Very reminiscent of the XBox 360 failure fiasco.

The rest of the problem is an issue that lies with all modern operating systems - they all require a significant period of maturity to develop a very high degree of stability and security. This is independent of how skilled the programming team is (although it helps to a certain degree) - ultimately, OSs are incredibly complex pieces of technology and oversights, errors and other issues will invariably creep into development which will require time, patience and effort to resolve.

Vista is to xp as xp was to 2000.

Honest to god the initial xp release is almost identical to what is going on now with vista.
