GeForce 9600GT Benchmarked

Chinese hardware site, PConline.com, managed to acquire and benchmark an official working version of Nvidia's upcoming GeForce 9600GT.

The new card, codenamed G94, features 650 MHz core clock frequency, 1625 MHz shader clock frequency, 64 unified shader units (stream processors) as well as 512 MB GDDR3 RAM clocked at 1800 MHz.

The Chinese website benchmarks confirmed Nvidia's earlier claims that GeForce 9600 offers a 100% performance boost over its 8600 predecessor. The card achieved 10813 points in 3DMark 2006 , compared to 6251 points scored by GeForce 8600GTS and 10391 points scored by GeForce 8800GS.

The card also managed to run Crysis at 27.3 frames per second on maximum details 1280 * 1024 resolution with Ant Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering turned off. All benchmarks were done using a beta driver, so we may see better performance when the card is officially launched.

by the sound of it, this bloody thing is faster then the 8800gt and is faster then my 3870

Even so, at high (not very high) with AA/AF off I get around 20-28 FPS depending on what is happening on screen, 1280x1024. I tried faking very high by changing the cvar groups folder but this reduced the framerate to around 15 fps during battles so the visual gains weren't really noticed.

After farting around with the settings a bit, I finally settled on medium detail, 1280x1024, with AA off and the framerate is very playable at 28-40 FPS. It's even playable at up to 4x aliasing w/ my 8800 GTS.

It's only really bad if you want to do something crazy like 1920x1200. A single GTX will run it fine with aa/af MAX/very high at 1280x1024, and still get over 40 FPS with a single and 52 with 2xGTX SLI config, which though expensive isn't uncommon.
