Something interesting about old radeon cards

Hey guys, i have 2 ati radeon cards install on my computer:

Diamond Stealth S60 Radeon 7000 64MB PCI Video Card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814103160

Diamond Multimedia Stealth ATI Radeon 9250 256 MB Video Card

http://www.superwarehouse.com/Diamon...256SB/p/723675

Keep in mind i have windows 98se, i use this computer for internet fun and gaming. My wife has a xp , which we both use for private business and personal business. I am also buying a super powerful rig , xp edition a few months from now.

Anyway, i found something interesting in the 7000 version. The 7000 version does not support Hardware T&L. But here is the interesting part, if you install catalyst driver 4.3, it enables Hardware T&L full time and it adds some extra features as well. So if anyone has a old card and dont think it has hardware t&l, download cataylst 4.3.

I dont have to worry about this using my 9250, but its cool to mess around witht he 7000 version.

I also notice, that 4.3 has the best performance, so y'all might want to use that one to test out some games and see how it run games.

Considering the latest ones are catalyst 7.1, you'll most likely have alot of issues with most games made more then a few years ago. I'd also recommend not really buying a new system this early. Wait a while longer and a get a proper Vista upgrade with dx10 cards and keep that for a few years.

Catalyst 7.1 doesnt work on 9x systems. The last catalyst driver for windows9x is 6.2 and it works like crap on my computer. I tested out 6.2 with ford racing 2, ford racing 3, shade wrath, fate RPG, will rock, GTA III and vice city, etc and the frame rate was terrible, i got like 7fps in GTA games.

But when using 4.3 , in GTA games i can run the game at 800x600 32bit colors or 1024x768 16bit colors, at near 60fps. 4.3 works perfect with me, on the 7000 card.

And about vista, nope. I rather buy a super xp computer. I dont care about vista and i dont see myself getting vista until like 8 years from now haha.

Well thats the thing, what with games changing and getting DX10 effects and such, all the new video cards are now DX10 performance based. I'm still not sure how you go to 7fps with new drivers. They possibly might not be 98 compliant. Not sure.

ah ati cards and 98se are my favorite environment. I had an old ati rage 2 card, 64mb i think it is and i could run any games with those 4.x cata drivers, but its those old 233mhz 98se systems i love to screw with. i have an old 233 still and i could easily play diablo 2 lord of d on it and C&C redalert2 also haha!!!
