Man, that Phantasy Star 4 review brought back so many memories. I also agree that it's a better series than Final Fantasy. Alys has so much more personality than Aeris it's not even fair to compare the two.
I would almost agree with this game being better than Lunar if not for the ending. Lunar has such a better ending that it puts it over the top IMO. If PS had that epic tension build-up at the end it would've won me over. I don't want to spoil the ending*********spoiler*********** ...but the last boss in PS is really easy and has no personality (for obvious reasons). When you finish fighting the game pretty much ends right there on the spot. That Zeo character was so much more interesting as a side boss, it's too bad he didn't come back to play a major role later on. Oh well, the fact that I actually REMEMBER the story is pretty amazing for an RPG. Good review. |

That was such a huge letdown for me. After all those hours spent, and I was so close!

You have the liberty of free time on your side when you're young. As I recall it, PSIV wasn't a long game.

Really? Well it DOES get long when you try to level up your characters unless PS4 is unique in that department

Yeah the leveling up part did take a few extra hours. I don't know how long I spent on the game. I didn't time it. But I did get my levels up quite a bit and suddenly I had a power outtage that lasted 4 seconds right before I saved. PISSED! Phantasy Star 4 is fairly long. Longer than Lunar from what I remember. Probably about the average length of an RPG. Also, Icarus probably didn't do all of the optional side missions and explore EVERYTHING.

I don't remember it that well. It was fun and I wanted it but at that time my brother was the one with the Genesis.

We switched systems back and forth several times (usually Genesis/SNES, rarely TG16). I was the first to own Genesis on Christmas of 90(?), and that same Christmas my brother got TG16.

To be quite honest, I am very happy I never had a brother. I wouldn't be able to stand sharing my stuff with him. With my luck he wouldn't take care of it, either. Or would sell it. The only way having a brother would be acceptable is if he wasn't in to what I was into.

I'm lucky I had a brother who is the epitome of the XTREME generation. When you are XTREME, you don't have time for video games.

I had a great time with this game. It is short but I feel fulfilled inside. Being that I don't have a ton of time to play games these days I like shorter games that I can beat in just a couple of sittings. This way the game doesn't get stale. Everything mentioned in the review by Joe is right on. The control is tight, the music is good and the graphics are very good and very colorful. I really like the music in the ice level and in the town of Bergonia. Now I am off to play Monster World IV............or Dragon's Curse..............well both of them but I don't know which one first. Joe what one should I play first? [ |
