nVidia's new GF100 series

Pretty epic. Heres some videos showing the stuff it can do..

Ok this first one is super cool. One thing to look at in all these clips are the perfect circles all over the place. Thats called tesselation and its a feature in DX11. It doesnt have that octagonal crap going on. Check out the face animations and then the cool physics on the wood.

Watch all the individual strands of hair. Very cool.

This water is very impressive. I just wish the clip wasnt a camera taking it because it does lose out on the detail its meant to be showing. And they also screwed up the demo a little so that was kinda lol worthy.

This next one might make you scratch your head and say whats so special about this? Basically if you know what ray tracing is then you'll freak out. If you want to know about it in detail just go to wikipedia and break you brain. Easiest way to quickly describe it is like this.. They used ray tracing in a few films, specifically the LOTR films. They had thousands of computers linked together for this. If you were to try ray tracing on a really suped up system now you could basically let it run, go off and do whatever for an hour, and when you came back you'd be lucky to have a few frames done or so. Watch how fast this damn thing does it in real time. It'll give you an idea of how super advanced this new card is.

Theres some other video clips at the link, a longer version of the first one where they talk and give more info about it.

This clip shows how it works with water. So cool.

And now for some pretty pictures which I hope dont get linkdeathed.

And dont forget, they're capable of 3D gaming and movie viewing too. If you have the proper monitor and the glasses that are specifically made for the pc. You might think omg thats alot, but really it'll probably be cheaper then a proper 3D tv, whenever those fucking things even reach us. Then you have to make sure your bluray drive can do 3D. Although if you have a ps3 you're good. Go to the link for extra links on indepth info on the card and its features. Benchmarks should be sprouting up within the week. Cant wait! Release is claimed for march. So just 2months away.

I'll just be glad when it starts dropping prices of cards I might actually buy.

Call back in 3 years. They shouldn't cost as much as your PC by then.

Wait, so are these GPUs going to go up against ATI's recently released DX11 cards?

I believe Final Fantasy: Spirits Within also used Ray Tracing back then with many many computers linked together.

To me tesselation is the most awesome feat. Having really round edges and circles (i.e. circular window) be really round without those pixely octagons. Now the hair we see in CGI movies will so awesome in games as well in a couple of years...

I like the hair, a lot. Technical advances has limited hairstyles in games for far too long.

woah that is impressive

i don't wanna make a new thread so i'll ask here...i was thinking about upgrading graphics card and ram

i have an 8800 gts and 3 gigs of ram, i can max out at 8(overkill imo but w/e)

right now though all i play is TF2 (greatest pc game ever?) and occasionally l4d2...and of course fighters, gg#r online plus everything on ggpo (mainly ST)

i know eventually though there will be a game that comes that will force me to upgrade

but what is worth upgrading to from an 8800 gts...i dont really need to run games at 300 fps but yea

any suggestions alucard?

I know for me it's the number one reason I can't get completely engrossed in my dating sims

I've got the 8800gts 512mb one myself. At the moment pretty much every game runs at max details smoothly so I wont be upgrading anytime soon. Mind you I'm still using XP so I cant enjoy dx10-11 stuff. Later in the year I plan to get one of these new series of cards so that when I do install win7 I'll be able to use dx11.
