Modding Skyrim again...

Here's what I got so far:

I'm trying to go for a stylized realism with a more realistic lighting than what's found in the original game. This means that the nights and interiors without lights are very, very dark and I need to equip or wear a lantern. But during the days, I want the wildlife to pop! I'm using many HD textures and my GPU's 4GB VRAM is being used at around 3GB all the time. It's really working the 670 hard. I haven't benchmarked it, but I feel like it's always above 40fps, which is very playable. I have a weather mod (Climates of Tamriel) that throws in various weathers, and I had a lightning bolt strike about 50 feet.

A lot has changed with the game due to the modding scene. They have found a way to correct some of Bethesda's coding that locked up nicer GPUs from really going nuts with their VRAM. Still, this game is kicking my GPUs ass. Feels good.

I've only got a 2GB 550ti, but Skyrim isn't a demanding game either, I was actually thinking about finishing up Skyrim after I'd finished Bastion.

Skyrim isn't that demanding, but Bethesda did release official HD textures for the game. That'll make good use of your 2GB It fixes a lot of graphical issues associated with the lower resolution textures like the blocky faces.

If you're going to play, I'd highly suggest modding at least a little. You don't need to go nuts like I am (over 150 mods here), but even one good lighting mod can really create a good atmosphere to the game:

These shouldn't hit your performance too much, if at all.

Unfortunately, all the graphic mods in the world won't make it a better RPG, where I think it lacks. They made this awesome stage, but the actors suck.

I don't know what your comment suggests. Skyrim is a very good RPG and the mods I've installed make it an amazing looking game and add a ton of new content and depth to the combat.

[Edit] Oh you mean the way Skyrim tells a story? I'd agree. But I don't agree that modding the game doesn't make it a better RPG. It feels like a much more real world when I mod it and the additional gameplay mods make the gameplay so much more engaging. That makes it a better game.

I just didn't like the quests, and I thought the game was bland despite looking gorgeous and having a ton of potential. Morrowind and Oblivion quests were just a lot cooler overall.
