Etrian Odyssey IV 3DS

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/02/21...ficulty-level/

Early leaks from Famitsu may have spilled one of tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct announcements. Etrian Odyssey, Atlus’ Wizardry-like dungeon crawling series, is coming to the Nintendo 3DS.

Etrian Odyssey IV: Legend of the Giant God was revealed along with seven jobs. Players can choose swordsman, medic, fortress, rune master, nightseeker, sniper or dancer. Atlus aims to make Etrian Odyssey IV more approachable than previous games with an additional casual difficulty setting. Beginners can choose this while seasoned Etrian Odyssey adventurers can pick normal. The difficulty setting can be changed at anytime during the game so players who want more of a challenge can switch to normal.

One surprise is Princess Mononoke artist Nizo Yamamoto is creating background art for Etrain Odyssey IV. Other staff members include familiar Etrain Odyssey staff like Yuji Himukai (character designer), Shin Nagasawa (monster designer), and Yuzu Koshiro (sound). Daisuke Kaneda, battle advisor on the original Etrian Odyssey and director of Trauma Team, is the director on Etrian Odyssey IV.

Etrain Odyssey IV is slated for release on July 5 and if you reserve the game you’ll get a booklet and a soundtrack CD as a bonus.

Coming to the US via Atlus in 2013.

Get your mapping tools out because Atlus announced they are localizing Etrian Odyssey IV. Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan has a number of changes starting with the hot air balloon you travel in.

All of the monsters, like this bear ready to leap out of the screen, are drawn with polygons, a first for the series. You can also see F.O.E.s clearly on the field interacting with other objects in the game’s many dungeons.

While Etrian Odyssey series is known for being hardcore, the game has a casual mode for newcomers. Casual mode takes you back to town if you die instead of ending the game and gives you an item that lets you warp to town at anytime. Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan is slated for release in early 2013.

I love that the monsters animate in battle now, but at the same time I'm kinda sad to see the big ol fireball FOEs being taken out. Somehow seeing exactly what the monster is kind of takes a bit of the fun surprise out of it. I'll never forget the time I ran into my first FOE, I felt bold and capable and hah it turned out to be some lame little deer! Then getting my ass completely handed to me by it. Haha. Great series.
