The Steam deal thread! All Steam deals, all the time.
Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/26
Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
What is a CD key and where can I find it? The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account. Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam? All retail Valve games and a number of third-party games can be registered to your Steam account. All of the following games can be registered through Steam:
Note: Only the retail games listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam. Other Keys that can be redeemed on Steam (CAG tested & verified) ![]() The Ball (bought @D2D and tested by voken) Last edited by eastx; 02-26-2012 at 10:22 AM. |

on their store pages. If a game doesn't have that graphic and doesn't mention controller support in its text description, assume it doesn't work with controllers. There is a partial list here. If you'd like to use a controller with a game that doesn't natively support it, the XPadder app works very well.

I remember awhile ago we had a thread discussing online distribution vs brick and mortar models. When it came to 'sales' the group defending brick and mortar models said that sales were essentially the same on each side.
I think we can all agree now that when it comes to price, online distribution is kicking the crap out of brick and mortar. Steam has been simply dominating when it comes to discounts.

not true, I bought games at Toys r us stores and walmart for like 3 dollars and they were PS3 and Wii games also. Amazon does pretty awesome deals also. I bought Brutal Legends on PS3 for 8 dollars.
Best Buy even had a buy one get one free deal of equal or lower price. Even if the game was brand new. and I even got a free DSi XL with trading in 4 games when it first came out. Deals are everywhere, you just have to know where to look.

You bought a game at Toys R Us and Walmart for 3 dollars?
No matter, I got MLB2K10 for $1.99 on Steam. You got 1-upped, son! And I wouldn't really put Amazon in the 'brick and mortar' category. They don't have the same overhead that other brick and mortar stores do, that's why they can keep their prices low and have great deals.

Steam only sells PC games. You cant list console titles as comparison. Besides, when Mirrors Edge was still going for around $30, I got it for $5 on a pc sale lololoolol. Good thread btw

Yeah, I don't know why Spider-Prime thinks isolated clearance prices are comparable to Steam's regular weekly and holiday sales. And thanks, Alucard.

I swore up and down I'd stick to buying physical copies of games. Then I installed steam because I could get portal for free. Then I saw a cool game for like two dollars. I said "What the hell, it's only 2 bucks" and now I have like 40 games on steam.
They set their traps well.

I'll believe that when I see your receipt. Sorry, I can't just simply believe they would see a newer game like Mass Effect 2 for $5 unless there is something you are omitting.

it's only 19.99 before the sale I got it during their game days sales.
I bought other games for 4.99 and 9.99 during their sale. I got Capcom vs SNK card battling game which really sucks for 3.99 during that for the DS. PC games are probably one of the easiest to find cheap compared to console games anyways.

Steam is quite consistent with good deals though, rather than the occasional good deal that most other places have.
During the big sales you just get spoiled with so many choices.
