Wrath of the Lich King Moves Over 1.4 Million Units

Wrath of the Lich King Moves Over 1.4 Million Units in North America
NPD analyst points to expansion's success as a sign of life in the PC market.

We had already heard that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King sold well enough to smash records for at least one major retailer, but thanks to today's release of NPD sales data for the month of November, we've got a clearer idea of how good it did. Though the NPD charts don't normally cover PC software sales, analyst Anita Frazier had this to say: "We would be remiss not to point out the strength of PC game sales this month as lead by the release of the latest World of Warcraft expansion pack. Wrath of the Lich King sold over 1.4 million units in the U.S. during its debut month at retail."

Of course, we had previously been told that the expansion pack sold over 2.8 million copies worldwide in its first 24 hours, so as hard as it is to imagine, that 1.4 million in the U.S. is only a drop in the bucket for Blizzard's total November software sales. Add in monthly subscription fees and extra charges for everything from switching servers to changing genders and this company is practically pulling in Nintendo money.
