New dx10 8600GT/GTS line

Heres some links to benchmarks for these cards which will be out in may. I wont bother putting the graphs up here cause half the time they're not linkable and they're also a little large in size. Hop over if interested.

They have some pretty good stats though. The GTS version for example runs pretty good at resolutions below 1600x1200. Mind you I play most of my games at 1024x768, sometimes 1280x1024 if I feel the game is really smooth in the lower one. Some stats for the GTS at 1024x768 with full detail on STALKER, around 120fps. FEAR mid 60's. Oblivion outdoors is around 137fps, which is pretty awesome.

Theres two links for you. The first one is best ofcourse. Price wise the GTS version on newegg has the MSI brand listed at $199. The 8800GTS cards start from around $370 I think. Big price difference there for sure. I think at just under $200 the 8600GTS is pretty excellent for value and performance. Mind you I'd wait to see how Crysis performs on them before you decide to upgrade just yet. They claim the game will be out in April. I laugh and say August. So if you're planning to ugprade to DX10 card, wait a few more months if you can. Theres not much point to getting a dx9 card now since the cheapest best ones are around $170 or something, and the $200 8600GTS actually outperforms them in some games.

I hear talks the ATI cards are going to be 2x a good with the same competitive pricing. I'm holding off to see. But in the end nothing is worth $370 when there isn't even a game to play at launch for it. If I wanted to buy and wait, I would have gotten a 360. Ooooooo. Went there.

I'm going to wait for the 3D cards next year when they launch with GDDR5 ram, it's going to be faster and uses less power and smaller. So I see my money being better wasted with that cause the less power the cards uses the lower my electric bill lol

Not my type of "game", but doesn't the Deluxe version Flight Simulator X support DirectX 10?

Anyways, I just put together a new gaming PC with Vista Ultimate and the nVidia 8600GTS. I'll let you British Empire slackers and Reality know how it is when Halo 2 Vista comes out on the 8th.

ATi Benchmarks never result in the same in game performance
2x benchmark, will result in 1.5 ingame

But for the same price, why not just get a DirectX 10 compatible card?
