free linux advice

i'v an old work laptop i have "aquired" and intend to remove the nasaty XP build off it and rebuild it for home use with a free linux variant ..

i have licenced copies of x86 version of solaris 10 and aix 5L etc but these seem a bit over kill for a laptop, plus i would rather not use company licences/software on a home system, so i'd rather use a smaller free linux on the lappy .

i'v downloaded fedora and ubunto anyone played around with either of these, or should i look at a different variant?

Xubuntu. It's alot lighter in the interface department. Perfect for a net terminal.
