Well, all depends really since theres a few categories of fps! I guess you could say counter-strike since its realistic and also the most played around the world. But my bias would go to Aliens vs Predator!

Well Thief 2 is the greatest ever. But I always have a hard comparing it to other FPS games. I mean all the others have guns and killing and rushrushrush! Thief is bow, stalkstalk hide lots. I give it its own seperate section of Legendary status. But for a gun fps, AvP!

Half-Life.... the end...

Theres a reason we're all doing the pee dance for this game, and it's not because we're not using the bathroom. Oh you need more.

Ok, for one, the game is self is great, it not a game you can just pop in and beat in 20 hours... it has a good story and tons of action. Still need more... ok how about the community that stands behind it? You have people who have made mods like Counter-Strike, Natural Selection, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, I don't think I need to go on any more on that point. Lastly with out Half Life we wouldn't have Half Life 2...

So my vote goes to Half-Life, though I will say the Theif games do give it a run for it's money, but Thief isn't a First Person SHOOTER, it's a First Person Sneaker... remember that.

1. Half-Life (PC - scripting done best)
2. Marathon (Mac - "first mouse based fps"? very fun)
3. No One Lives Forever (PC - classy, funny, and innovative - all hard to find now-a-days, i'm playing NOLF2 now)
4. Goldeneye (N64 - for the excellent multiplayer, and ability to play scenes nearly identical to the great movie)

somewhere later on includes, halo, deus ex, CS, BF1942, doom, quake, etc....
