5 Reasons 'Torchlight 2' Is A Better Bang For Your Buck Than 'Diablo 3'
http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain...than-diablo-3/
1. Price 2. Always-online play 3. Auction House 4. Mods 5. Guns, pets, and UI The actual reasoning is too long to post on here, but it's an interesting read.

I'm more of a fan of Diablo's artstyle and austhetics. Torchlight is great, but not my first choice when it comes to the Diablo-clone. Plus, if it was not for Diablo there probably would not be a Tochlight.
I mean if someone does not like Diablo, then thats fine. But don't not like it just because its the third installment in a critically acclaimed series. I sure do understand some complaints. It is $60 and you know Blizzard is making another expansion (who knows when). But I think as is, its a good deal if you have the cash. Plus always being online used to be a problem for me. Plus, Blizzard has done a great job with its style until it would be a real shame if I got another clone rather then D3. |

I like torchlight a lot...but it is simply inferior to diablo. The biggest problem imo is lack of variety in terms of enemy and labyrinth design; it gets extremely repetitive. There is basically no difference from floors 5 down, and the bonus labyrinth is pretty much a carbon copy of the levels that came before it. Sure, there's a little randomization, but the overall pool of enemies that the game chooses from is small compared to diablo.

Do remember that Blizzard's game devision has over 4000 employees and a humongous vat of money to draw from, whereas Runic has around 100 employees, maybe even less.
I like both games though. I preferred Torchlight's charm, the graphics and more light-hearted nature of the game, coupled with how awesome Runic is, really made me enjoy the game. Torchlight 2 is 1/4 the price but definitely not 1/4 of the game anymore, Yogscast are playing the beta and they've been giving it the thumbs up and enjoyed it more than D3's beta. But I'll still play Diablo 3 because that is a fantastic game as well. And it's already out, is the main reason. ![]() Runic is made up of old Blizzard guys who worked on Diablo, which is the reason why Torchlight holds up so well to Diablo despite having minuscule resources compared to Blizz.

I'll be getting both for sure, but neither on launch. Not sure when I'll actually grab them.

Diablo doesnt interest me at all. I got my fix with Dungeon siege 3 last year. Overlooked, but a very enjoyable game.

Dungeon Siege 3 and Diablo 3 have completely different gameplay. :/ You mean your fix of RPG games in general?

Action combat with Isometric view with lots of mosters to slash and character skill customization + loot fest. Is it not the same? I meant that kind of RPG.

I know, my point was that Runic has like 1% of Blizzard's staff so their game holding up against Diablo and even being compared to one another is an awesome achievement.
Love Runic. Also Dungeon Defenders SUX0RZ!!!!11

Well, I'd say they're quite different. All RPGs deep down are just skill customisation and loot anyway deep down aren't they?
Camera is the same, sure, but mechanics are pretty different and the gameplay is too. Dungeon Siege you control the character directly and use attack buttons, whereas Torchlight is click to move, click to attack, etc. and you get much more loot and there's much more exploration, but the story is pretty empty. I don't know what it's like on consoles though, they might be more similar. I hated Dungeon Siege 3 but love Torchlight. Maybe skip out on Diablo 3 but Torchlight 2 is releasing for almost 1/4 the price of a new retail game, so it might be worth looking at that. Torchlight has a free demo on Steam so you can try it out for nothing. It's a PC game at heart after all, and if you enjoy it, pre-order Torchlight 2 and you get the first Torchlight for free to play right now! http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500

Found this looking at the news:
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/di...i/user-reviews Seems like many people are disappointed with diablo 3. I heard the game sold 3 million units so blizzard must be lol'ing either way.
