Hologram concerts

Quote:
There were plenty of memorable moments at Coachella over the weekend but today everyone seems to be talking about the fact that a hologram of Tupac Shakur materialized onstage during a set from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg that was so realistic that it seemed like the fallen rapper had risen from the grave.
.
Admittedly the fact that the rapper, who was killed in 1996, was going to be reanimated did leak to fans a few days before the show but that doesn’t mean people weren’t still blown away when Shakur swaggered onstage and said “What up, Coachella?” before busting into a stellar version of “Hail Mary.”
.
So how exactly did the hologram come together?
.
“We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre’s vision to bring this back to life,” Nick Smith the president of AV Concepts, the San Diego company that projected and staged the hologram told MTV News. “It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life.”
.
As far as the image itself goes it was created by a Hollywood effects house called Digital Domain that also worked on the CG image of Jeff Bridges in TRON: Legacy. Smith told the site that he couldn’t talk about the “creative aspects” of the production (i.e. how it looked so lifelike) but that it took nearly four months to make and easily cost six figures.
.
So what did you think of Shakur’s holographic performance and would you like to see this trend continue? Let us know in the comments section below as you listen to 2pac Radio and don’t forget to check out Flashblack Friday this week as we continue to pay homage to this hip-hop pioneer.
That's weird wild stuff.

Yeah; I read where it costs Dr. Dre from $100,000 to $400,000 to do it. It looks very realistic, but also very disturbing. But I watched it under the headline "Tupac is back from the dead". Or is it Makaveli?

The Twittersphere was a-buzz about the polarizing, digital resurrection of rapper Tupac Shakur during Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s headlining set at the Coachella Music Festival Sunday night. According to MTV News, the stunningly detailed hologram of the rapper (who died in 1996) could have cost from $100,000 to over $400,000 to create!

Oh wow. I've seen the Vocaloid concert and always thought that was a little bit weird or even creepy but I never would have imagined someone taking that idea to reanimate dead singers. Kind of a cool idea really. I can't say I'm a fan of Tupac or rap in general but this is pretty neat and it would have been interesting to see the reaction from the fans who didn't know this was coming up. Pretty wild indeed.

I have heard of this before, but I refuse to see at least a millisecond of it, because of how retarded all of this is. That, and I despise so much of rap, or hip-hop, or whatever you call that genre. I really can't tell the difference, nor do I care.

Yeah I most assuredly didn't post this thread to act like it was the coolest thing ever. I would never go to a hologram concert personally. I just think it's f'n weird.

Now if the real life 2pac tours where I live I'll go watch him.

It's pretty cool in this kind of use, where 'Tupac' was out for out for two songs. But I wonder if people would pay to see, say, 'The Beatles' play a concert where there are no actual musicians or singers on stage.

Thats very cool. I can picture the stuff they'll program with other singers who died years ago. Awesome stuff.
