In a generation where they take your hand from the beginning to the end with checpoints every 5 steps that's just perfectly normal.
Unless they add bonfires in future games I don't see this changing.

The Gamespot review of Crash Bandicoot really shows this. A 6. Because it's 'too difficult'. Disgraceful. The continual dilution of difficulty and any inconvenience in games just serves to remove any tension and investment the player has. That's why Nier Automata was so good. You suffered for failing.
