It will work with the original 3ds probably because even inside nintendo they must be thinking that the "new" 3ds was a waste of time.
The game is developed by mercury steam the same guys behind castleavania lord of shadows series. While the game they initialy released for the 3ds Mirror of fate was decent at best; I'm pleased with what I have seen so far with samus returns.
