Joe, in the Famicom version of Altered Beast, you have to press up while in the air to do a high jump. Bam! Apparently that version has 3 new levels, not just one.
Just played the PCE Hu-Card port and dang, the second boss seems to be completely impossible to beat. There's no way to dodge or defeat enough eyes to avoid taking damage.
