Altered Beast is no more repetitive than, say, Thunder Force IV. All you do is shoot. And shoot! Anyway if Altered Beast were JUST a home game, I might rate it a point lower. But since it was an arcade game and I have fond memories of the arcade game, it gets a 7, which isn't "great" but certainly not bad.
