Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima Says He Wants Nintendo Switch To Sell More Than 20M Units In FY2018

In an interview with Kyoto Shimbun, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima mentioned that he wants Nintendo Switch to sell more than 2 million units in the next fiscal year (April 2018-March 2019). [Thanks, Takashi Mochizuki]

Kimishima further commented on why the system became a hit: “It was a bigger hit that we were hoping. The unique ability to play it as a home console, but also bring it out with you, was a hit feature.” On the Switch shortages, he said that Nintendo is increasing production in order to increase shelf stock.

This comes after Nintendo increased their sales forecast for the system to 16.7 million units in October. Kimishima emphasized that they want to ship more than that in the second year, by releasing an abundance of digital content to lengthen playtime of software.

On comparing the Nintendo Wii with the Switch, Kimishima confidently stated that depending on the country, the Switch is selling at pace that could overtake the Wii.
