Ok baby! Here's even more Ys VI goodness~

Ys VI ~ The Ark of Napishtim is shaping up to be the ultimate PS2 game ever! Here's a site with a bunch more screenshots ~ http://www.4gamer.net/store/shots/ys/ys03.html

Here's a ton of wallpapers direct from Falcom's front door in Japan ~ http://www.falcom.co.jp/ys6/download/wp.html

And here's the coverage on MagicBox from before ~ http://the-magicbox.com/Jan04/game010904k.shtml

This is the world map ~

Whosoever owns a PS2 and considers themself a gamer must own this game when it gets released. I just hope the soundtrack is as good as previous installments (excluding Ys V for Super Famicom of course).

Too bad the 3D art is as FUGLY as the 2D art is LOVELY.

04-18-2004, 04:34 PM
The game itself looks incredible. The juxtaposing of stunning hand-drawn art over the 3D environments really makes it stand out. Truly awesome. I wouldn't be too worried - they can always do another 2D version if they like. Falcom is NO JOKE when it comes to artwork, as this game and all of their former ones stand as a testament to that fact.

looks nice

You know, you chose the crappiest pic of the lot to represent the 3D art in the game. :p These are better looking:

The models are a bit low on the polygon count, but some of the textures like cobblestones, background 2d-art mountain in the distance, give the lacklustre 3D a nice touch.

Reminds me of an upgraded version of the Sega Saturn action/RPG that goes by the title Shining Wisdom.

Seska, how evil of you! I was just scared of posting too many of the pics from the sites - scared they might take note of it and remove the links. But anyway, you think that Ys VI looks bad? How so? It certainly looks impressive to me. The texture detail is crisp, and while other games may use better textures, I'm willing to bet they don't play as good as this will. Besides, it's a FALCOM GAME ON PS2! What's there to complain about? How often do we see this happen on any console?

04-18-2004, 05:55 PM
y's VI is going to be amazing, and the music will rock.

04-18-2004, 05:56 PM
The 2D art in Atelier Iris is more impressive to me - its fairly easy to produce a semi-decent texture and slap it on low-polygon count models and maps. That third pic in your post reflects this perfectly - look how plain those hills/ledges in the background look, or how simple that bridge looks. Even Grandia 2 looks a lot better than that.

As for how the game plays, I'll save that judgement for when the game is out. I had high hopes back in the day for Ys on the SNES and look how badly that turned out.

My philosophy for games is that its easier to be pleasantly surprised than bitterly disappointed, so Falcom or not, I'll prefer to take a sceptical approach to Ark of Napishtim. ;)

I am so looking forward to this game. I've been for a long time. The art looks really good.

04-18-2004, 11:15 PM
Ys 6 looks pretty good...gameplay seems too simplistic, though.

04-18-2004, 11:25 PM
have you seen the game in motion??

man, the music was incredible. i thought the gameplay looked pretty fierce as well.

Oh, the game looks neat enough (that Big Frog boss was actually pretty amusing to watch), but it is decidedly repetitive. If that's what's in store, I'll pass.

You should've never done that Decado.....

Boys, get him.

:kill: :kill: :kill:

Icarus ~ "So now I know you're going to buy Ys VI, aren't you!!"
Decado ~ "Sure! Sure! Please don't kill me!"

Ys VI will be one of the best games of this generation - mark my words. If you enjoyed games like Shining Wisdom, the first four Ys titles, Zelda, etc. then you cannot afford to pass this up. High-quality textures or not, it's gameplay and funfactor that matter the most. Where's all the Sony fanboys at? How come they're not all over this forum? Ah, I get it now; they only appear when it's a game made by Square.

Good. You all keep the graphics that get dated and I'll go for the one with the gameplay.

I liked Zelda back in the NES days...but I had different taste then. Never played the Ys games of old (I think). Action/RPGs are an interestng, but increadibly tough, sell for me. Their RPG elements usually suck compared to most RPGs, and their action elements are a joke compared to top quality action games. We'll see, but I don't know if this one will be able to interest me with games like SMTIII: Nocturne, La Pucelle, Front Mission 4 etc. on the way

04-19-2004, 04:14 AM
It's completely different than those other titles. If you've played Ys then you'd know why this is such good news. I personally like the look of the game very much and could care less about whether or not some other game(s) use better textures. Everybody used to talk about how much better Virtua Fighter 3 looked than anything else did at the time it was shown, and yet it was the worst VF game in mine and a lot of other people's opinions. Like I said, it looks something like an upgraded Shining Wisdom in a way. I can tell you one thing just from looking at the screens: Square's character designers have got NOTHING on Falcom's.

04-19-2004, 04:43 AM
Now that's a game I'm looking forward (not like FF-XII). Btw Icarus from which KOF is this Athena I can't remember seeing that pose ;)

04-19-2004, 05:57 AM
2003. Athena rocks, as does Kyo and Iori.

04-19-2004, 07:25 AM
OK, I'm psyched. When is it coming to America?

EDIT: Just checked...winter '04? That's uh....a LONG time to wait, folks...lol

04-19-2004, 03:13 PM
I dont have anything constructive to say in this thread. So I guess ill just let you know that I will buy this game on release. So it doesnt really matter if its bad or not, so I have no reason to discuss or argue about it.:D

04-19-2004, 03:19 PM
It looks OK.

04-19-2004, 05:57 PM
Not really longer than RE4 Twelve. Question is, what are gonna be some of the other action/RPG titles for PS2 (or any other system for that matter) by around year's end? I don't know of any off of the top of my head.

04-19-2004, 06:22 PM
There's a few...but only Jade Empire and Fable looks substantially more promising than Ys VI.

If the combat system and game difficulty measures up, I'll likely end up getting YsVI. I was amused by the gameplay videos and the style is very cool.

Isnt it being made for the PC too, maybe that version is coming out sooner?

04-19-2004, 11:28 PM
The PC version has already been released in Japan (a while ago). Konami has picked up the rights to make console versions.

04-19-2004, 11:32 PM
So no US PC version?

04-19-2004, 11:40 PM
i seriously doubt it.

you can bet that konami will bring out the rest of them as well.

04-20-2004, 12:41 AM
I watched the trailer of it, and I must say, if it doesnt look even a LITTLE cool to you then your not a gamer,

it looks awesome

Okay no wonder I don't know, haven't seen or played 2003 yet. Wow looks like the bouncing animation finally also hit Athena ;).

Yeah, I suppose she's maturing. Anyway, I'm mad at myself because while a part of me wants to find the Ys VI soundtrack the other part is saying "Don't ruin the experience; just wait until it comes out." ARRRRGH!!
