Does this spell online play for first-party GameCube?

During an interview in Tokyo this week, head of Game Freak, Tsunekazu Ishihara, and the Pokemon Company, confirmed that the firm is working closely with central Nintendo to develop a GameCube Pokemon RPG.

?The demand for a GameCube game is great and we have finalised the engine and much of the artwork, as will be seen in the Pokemon games for GameCube that we have already announced,? said Ishihara-san. ?We are confident for the project?s success.

And about time too. This news has brought about rumour that Nintendo aims to release a massively multiplayer Pokemon RPG, complete with real-time online battling and the like - surely the ultimate dream for Poke-fans.

As soon as more is revealed, you?ll be the first to know.

I'm no Pokemon fan, but if done properly an online pokemon rpg would be very cool.

If this gonna turn out like I think. It's gonna be huge for Nin and might bring alot of money also for it. Even if their online fees is $1 a month.

Pokemon Sapphire is my first Pokemon game. It's very fun, nothing hardware pushing as I like (Golden Sun) but I be interested in this game. It would haft to look better then Pokemon Colosseum.

If it was online I look forward to seing Nintendo's plans of free online gaming.

You know, a proper Pokemon game has never appeared on the Gamecube. How great would it be if it looked like Dark Cloud 2 and you were able to explore huge environments? An MMORPG could take the form of something like PSO.

The article is a bit misleading. A "Pokemon RPG" could be offline or online.

it might bring money? IT WILL BRING MONEY, and finally a respectable japanese user base

I didn't say it might bring money I said it might bring ALOT of money. We know that the Pokemon franchise will generate money for Nin anyways, but if this is online it will deffently generate much more money (That's IF there's a monthly fee) and plus it will deffently push some system.

That's actually a bad translation. He said "considering" not "developing".

online it would be EXCEPTIONAL.

Im no huge pokemon fan, but you could go to gyms and battle eachother, travel around finding pokemon, trading.

I dont know how they would do the server, but it would be great.
