There's still not enough faith in the Switch from Nintendo, because success was way too easy for Switch?

Nintendo to continue 3DS business in parallel with Switch business

'We are continuing to develop new software,' Nintendo CEO says.

Nintendo will continue its 3DS business in parallel to its Switch business, Nintendo president and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said during the company’s financial results briefing for the fiscal year ending March 2018.

“The Nintendo 3DS characteristics, price points, and play styles differ from Nintendo Switch, and we intend to continue the Nintendo 3DS business separately and in parallel,” Kimishima said. “We will continue to use its installed base and rich software library in our business.”

Kimishima added, “We are, of course, continuing to develop new software, but we believe it is important to leverage the rich library of Nintendo 3DS series titles to drive sales with Nintendo 3DS owners, as well as consumers who recently purchased Nintendo 3DS hardware.”

According to the CEO, “The affordability of the Nintendo 3DS family of systems places it in a critical position as the first dedicated video game platform for children who have no prior experience with dedicated video game systems. It is also positioned as an affordable product for budget-conscious consumers. We will continue working to promote Nintendo 3DS to these consumers.”

Yup.
3DS is still selling, so of course they won't get rid of it yet. Plus, still more games coming out for it.

No, it's because the Switch is a tablet (it breaks too easily) and doesn't capture a portion of the market the 3DS does. Wich is 7 to 13 years.

I got a 2DS for my 8yo niece. The switch was just not an option. It would break too easily.

So, they are making a very smart decision. If they throw that market away, they will lose their Nostalgia appeal. It's a very important segment for them.

I don't expect it to last for long. Detective Pikachu and Radiant Historia are both out in the next couple of months. SMT: SJ Redux is out May/June. It seems the 3DS is pretty much done for me at this point can't think of anything else that upcoming I want and haven't seen any interesting pre-orders around. It'll most likely kick around for a while like the Vita has been and then die off by next year.

That announcement did say they have more games in development.

Only sub-par games, just like last year.

I guess we will have to see. Last year did have pokemon, fire emblem and that Oasis game from what i can remember. Definitly less in number. But for example, stuff like a golden sun or advance wars could still happen.
