Nintendo Switch launches March 3 for $299

Nintendo Switch will launch in Japan, the U.S., Canada, major European countries, and other territories on March 3, 2017 for $299 / 29,980 yen, Nintendo announced. (For Europe, please check with your local retailer.)

The system will offer an online service that allows friends to invite each other to play online together, set play appointments, and more from their smartphones. Online services will be free at launch, but become a paid service in fall 2017.

All Switch software will be region-free.

Battery life varies by game, but will range from 2.5 hours to 6.5 hours.

The screen uses a touch panel.

Up to eight Nintendo Switch systems can be connected for local wireless multiplayer gaming.

The Joycon controllers attached to the sides of the hardware will be available in traditional black, Neon Red, and Neon Blue color variations. There are also wrist straps with more prominent L and R buttons. The controller has motion sensors, a built-in IR camera, and HD rumble.

Not impressed with all that has been shown and now that it has become pay to play online I'm not very eager to do so because so far their online experience and virtual console has been crap.

I really hope they've learned from their mistakes but most likely they didn't.

Also beign a fatalist it's so much fun.

HD Rumble? That's worth the cost alone!

They just sold me one.

In the English version I watched on Nintendo's Youtube they said most not all will be region free. ;)

Anyway I'll get one in March for Zelda and I'll most likely pick up Bomberman.

Super Mario Odyssey looks good and they announced SMT, No More Heroes 3, Fire Emblem Warriors, Project Octopath, Story of Seasons and Xenoblade 2 that have my interest.

I'm really excited. Only downside is that the games won't be released for ages.

I got mine preordered.

While I have skyrim on the PC, I might get it for the switch just cause I don't have the DLC and it would be fun to play the game where ever I am. But, I will wait for reviews to make sure it's a decent enough port first.

But, I'm surprised that there are quite a few games I like, so lets hope they don't get canceled or anything.

This guy knows his Nintendo.

I love that people are going nuts again trying to order it just cause of amiibos and nes classic selling out to scalpers. It won't happen with the switch and it didn't happen with the wii u or 3ds. I would be surprised if this sells out and is hard to get like the Wii was.

Yeah, I don't anticipate this thing selling out like he Wii did. But then again, you can never underestimate Nintendo's inability to meet the demand of anything.

Oh it will sell out at launch, Nintendo will make sure not to meet demand just for those headlines, but it will be a disaster from there onwards.

Amazon UK has already stopped taking all pre-orders for the both versions of the Nintendo Switch.

Well selling out on launch is one thing, but we're talking about a whole other level of failure to meet demand. The Nintendo level of failure to meet demand for months. People STILL can't reliably find their own Classic NES. I had someone contact me asking for my Classic NES and offering me $100 for it. LOL, if I was gonna sell it, I'd ask for a hell of a lot more than $100.

Yesterday people were friggin' STOKED for the Switch. Now the hype is dying down and reality is settled in and a lot more people are falling into the "meh" realm. People went nuts trying to pre-order the thing, basically just caught up in the moment. Remember, all of this same hype happened with the Wii U. It was supposedly gonna be super-difficult to get. Pre-orders were CRAZY. But then the system flops.

I dunno about you but I'm not looking forward to games about milking cows or trying to count how many phantom balls I'm holding in my hand. It seems to me like they're trying to be the Wii again with the gimmicks. Nintendo just can't resist gimmicks.

But you know that most people wouldn't buy it even if it was like the PS4 in specs. The gamecube did better performance wise against the PS2, nobody cared.

So if they don't try to be different, they might just die right out of home consoles.

With saying that, I hope they don't keep mixing control styles.... looking at you star fox zero! ughhhhhhh. Games should only have ONE type of controls, not everything they can think of.

Story will repeat itself after the first wave of releases. Developers will lose interest when nintendo tries to force them down to implement touch, motion controls or both on every single game.

They just can't seem to think that there's people who want the option of the traditional controls.

Freaking casuals! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!

I blame Iwata for how crappy both the 3ds and wii u did in the beginning. But he's gone now, new president was the one that actually stood up against him when he was making bad decisions, but he couldn't do any real change at the time.

So, lets hope, this guy realizes what the people want from consoles, even if they are just small little features everyone has been asking for since the Wii. Like Actual accounts that you can easily switch to like the PS3/PS4 can and that keeps records for your purchases so it's easy to move from one system to another if it breaks.

If Switch can maintain the same level of software support as the 3DS than it should be able to survive and keep its portable role.

Got mine preordered. Can't wait for Zelda. Did I just pay $400 to just play Zelda? Yes I did. Do I care? No. Looking forward to what the system can deliver...if Nintendo can deliver. Everything I have seen I like a lot more than the Wii and Wii U.

Meh, I just hope this makes the Wii U drop in price so I can play Zelda and Mario Kart.

I'm hoping for a big price drop soon for it cause I want one to store for in case mine breaks.

Price drop it's tempting but better wait for a better model with larger storage capability, performance upgrade and extended battery life because tendencys and it's also a nintendo portable console.
