A Shocking Number Of Hotels Were Caught Not Changing Sheets For New Guests

When you're away from home, walking into your hotel room and seeing a plush duvet cover and crisp sheets is the best feeling in the world. But just because they look clean doesn't mean they actually are.

Inside Edition recently decided to book into nine hotel rooms in New York City to see whether they cleaned their sheets in between guests.

They booked into the rooms, painted the sheets with invisible ink, checked out, and then booked into the same rooms under a different name.

In three of the nine hotels they stayed at, the sheets remained unchanged between their visits.

The manager of one of the hotels that didn't change the sheets told Inside Edition "we make it a custom to change every checked out room sheet. However, I do not know what happened in this situation."

But while most hotels changed their sheets, it's a different story for duvets. Reneta McCarthy, a former housekeeping manager for a major American hotel chain, told Huffington Post that a hotel bedspread might only be changed four times a year since duvets are difficult to wash.

She recommends requesting a clean set of linen and changing it yourself.
