Celebrity gossip site TMZ reported Thursday that Prince had been treated for a drug overdose six days before his sudden death.

A plane returning the singer to his home in Minnesota made an emergency landing in Moline, Ill., last Friday for a medical emergency. Prince’s representatives said at the time that he was battling the flu.

But TMZ said multiple sources in Moline told the website that the emergency landing was so the singer could be taken to hospital for a “save shot,” an injection administered to counteract the effects of an opiate.

No cause of death has been given, but Jason Kamerud, the chief deputy for the Carver County Sheriff’s office in Minnesota, said the local medical examiner would conduct an autopsy, the New York Times reported.

Officials would not comment on the TMZ report.
