Next Xbox One Backwards-Compatible Game Revealed

Hitman: Absolution is joining the lineup; IO Interactive boss says he'd like to see all of developer's Xbox 360 games added.

2012's Hitman: Absolution is joining the Xbox One backwards compatibility program and it sounds like it may not be the last game from developer IO Interactive to do so. In an interview with Worthplaying (via VideoGamer), studio head Hannes Seifert said Absolution will join the program, but he didn't say when it would arrive.

The particulars around launch timing is decided by Microsoft, he said. Before a game is released in the Xbox One backwards compatibility program, it is tested by Microsoft. This was why Red Dead Redemption was accidentally released into the program last weekend.

People are clearly interested in Absolution coming to Xbox One, as the game has more than 23,000 votes on the Xbox Feedback site.

Seifert went on to say that he hopes that all of IO's Xbox 360 games can join the backwards compatibility lineup some day. Some of the developer's other Xbox 360 titles include Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days (2010), Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (2007), Hitman: Blood Money (2006), and Hitman: Contracts (2004).

The latest batch of Xbox One backwards compatibility games arrived this week, including Lego Batman and Alan Wake's American Nightmare. You can see all 130-plus titles in the program here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: how pathetic is this current generation that we get excited to play older gen games on our new hardware.

Not really. Most people are excited for new games like Quantum Break but at the same time it's always nice re-playing games you loved the first time around. I see no problem with that at all.
