Square Enix finally ditched the engine that they spent 3+ years building, that proves how good they are.

Kingdom Hearts III is now being built on Unreal Engine 4, director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed.

Nomura shared the news regarding a switch of engines while speaking with Famitsu. In a recent interview with the magazine, he stated that the change came about due to “various reasons”. Because of the engine switch, the team is experiencing some issues with rendering, though Epic Games has been working closely with the team to sort out any problems.

As for the actual game itself? Nomura mentioned that development is proceeding as planned.

Well FFXV is still using that engine but I'd imagine Unreal Engine 4 will be the most choice for a lot of developers again.

Somehow i'm now more certain that this game will come out in a timely manner (2 years). The problem within square seems to be beeing tangled up on all these different internal engines.
