View Full Version : Crackdown 3...?

A top Xbox One exec has hinted that a new Crackdown is underway for the new console, after related images were spotted at the unveil event.

If you study the image above, from the Xbox One unveil in May, under a magnifying glass then you’ll see that the bottom left image is the icon for agility orbs from Xbox exclusive Crackdown.

At the time there didn’t seem much to draw from this, as it could easily have just been a placeholder image. But speaking to IGN Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has revealed that its inclusion ‘wasn’t accidental’.

Spencer claims to be a big fan of the franchise and went on to say that, ‘I don’t think Crackdown is dead at all’.

‘It’s a franchise that’s still close to me. I think there’s a lot of room, especially… For me, the natural progression for a game like Crackdown – and you see this showing up on our stage – is in these living, open worlds that live in the cloud.’

Although that definitely suggests Microsoft is interested in a new game it doesn’t necessarily confirm that they’ve started work on one.

One of the most obvious problems is who’d make the game, as the original was the work of now defunct Scottish developer Realtime Worlds.

The much less well-received Crackdown 2 was developed by Ruffian Games, who employ many ex-Realtime staff but have previously insisted they are not making a sequel.

Back in March, Ruffian insisted that ‘We’re not working on Crackdown 3!’, although whether that was a ruse or if Microsoft simply isn’t using them for the new game is impossible to say.

Either way we suspect it may be a while before you see anything substantial of Crackdown 3.
