Panzer Dragoon fans... here's your successor:

If you're a Panzer Dragoon fan, then you best pay attention. Announced over at Famitsu, Grounding Inc. has blown the lid off Project Draco, their Xbox 360 Kinect exclusive Panzer Dragoon successor.

Developed by both Yukio Futatsugi and Manabu Kusunoki, who created the original Panzer Dragoon games, Project Draco features similar rail guided dragon flying action. Built from the ground up for Kinect, players will use arm gestures to attack with their chosen dragon, which can be upgraded and customised between stages with around one hundred and fifty different skills. The original design had players also using their arms to control the flight path of their dragon, but the developers felt this was too tiring and clumsy, and instead opted for a traditional rail experience.

Project Draco will release early next year on the Xbox LIVE Arcade, and as said will be Kinect exclusive. Grounding Inc. is not only aiming to set the bar for what a good Kinect game is all about, but also for one of the highest quality games on the Arcade. First screenshots can be seen below.

Yeah, I'd be interested if I didn't have to bounce around like a retard. Panzer Dragoon games have never sold particularly well. This one, requiring the Kinect, well sell even less. What's next, Shenmue 3 exclusive to the goddamn Wii Balance Board?

Actually, Kinect owners are hungry for 'core' experiences (non-casual games), so it's got a built-in audience and will get extra looks just for that.

Lair... here we go again.

Kinect owners are hungry for games .. Full stop .

Well let's see, we've had 3 good-great games released in just the last few months: Child of Eden, Rise of Nightmares, and The Gunstringer. Plus there will be a few more soon like Steel Battalion (hopefully good), etc. Admittedly that's not a huge horde of games, but how many Kinect games does anyone really need in such a short span of time?

Rise of Nightmares looks bad and reviewed horribly. Steel Battalion should be interesting when it's finally ready in the distant future.

This aint core. It'll be horribly soulless.

It did review kind of badly, but everyone I know who's actually played it says it's very fun. Here's a review that matches the general consumer sentiment:

And Alucard, how is a new Panzer Dragoon game (in everything but title) not core?

i don't know... why not keep the panzer dragoon name, if it is the successor?

Because it's not being published by Sega. The creator of the series went to a different company, and that's who's making the new game.

Child of Eden = was much better with a pad
Rise of Nightmares = looks terrible
The Gunstringer = not my type of thing .. but what from what i've read about it .. hardly looks/sounds that good anyway

Man I was looking to get Child of Eden, damn if it's better with a pad then what the hell did I get the kinect for? This game better be good as good as the xbox version prior.

So the game is seriously called "Project Draco"?

Whether Child of Eden is better with a d-pad is a matter of opinion. Certainly not everyone feels that way, and most critics praise the Kinect controls.

Rise of Nightmares may be graphically ugly, but it's a fun callback of the arcade House of the Dead games.

As for Gunstringer, I don't know what you've been reading because the critical praise is just overwhelmingly positive. It's absolutely wonderful. Heck, I even wrote my own mostly glowing review (http://www.co-optimus.com/review/849/page/1/the-gunstringer-co-op-review.html) which you surely didn't read. :P Point being, you should become informed as that will likely greatly change your opinion. Unless this is just another case of you hating a technology because it's different (like the 3DS), in which case all the facts in the world won't help.

Joe, Project Draco is a working title, I believe.

Notvsaying child of Eden is bad with kinect just for me it's not needed, rise of nightmares is everything I hate about video games tbh. And I would hardly call a metacrtic of 74 being critical praise .

I don't hate the tech, its great device with great possibilities which no one has done anything more than a lame wii me too with tbh. When they could have done so much more .. I have it and don't use it as there is nothing worth playing for me.

I just listed at least one Kinect exclusive game that's worth playing. Not sure why you persist in downplaying its quality. British people hate cowboys maybe?

Just to drive home a point here, professional Gunstringer reviews that rate it 8 or above:

Co-Optimus (http://www.co-optimus.com/review/849/page/1/the-gunstringer-co-op-review.html)

The only negative professional review I've read comes from Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-16-the-gunstringer-review), and that is clearly an outlier opinion.

So while I'm a little surprised and hurt that my own opinion is apparently meaningless to you, I really don't see why you'd enjoy just about everyone else's too. I mean, obviously no game can be everything to everyone, but at least back up your negative opinion with some reasons rather than just citing a Metacritic score.

and the three reviewers i trust generally (not always trust) gave it a 4, 5 and a 7 ... as i said .. from what i've read it not my cuppa tea .. not sayingits crap like someone round here would. I'm just not a big fan of on rail shooters .. Never have been

The game's official name is now Crimson Dragon. It's going to be an XBLA title, not retail. Here's a new screenshot:

Unlike microsoft to bet on something that will most probably be a niche title.

Wish they would do more risky games like this.
