The first Oneechanbara 360 game was actually crazy fun, despite the stupidly hard blood combo (necessary to get semi-important items, etc.) and lame Achievements. It came from the same developer as EDF 2017 and had a similar grinding vibe, though it played a bit rougher. This one looks like it will be super fun as well. Hopefully it gets announced for the US.

Play.com actually listed this a few weeks back as coming to Europe before they quickly removed it so it should be coming over sooner of later.

Looks like it's got a bigger budget this time aswell.

Will probably be as entertaining as the previous ones.

Was this game really good? I didn't bother to check it out.

It's not super good. But if you liked EDF 2017 (which I do think is super fun), you might also like the first Oneechanbara. It's got a weird Japanese Resident Evil-ish vibe, only even stranger/sillier while still taking itself very seriously. Mainly there's several characters whose stats you can improve by repeating levels, so it's fun to grind them up and get powerful. The Achievements are super hard/require going out of your way to get, but just running through the game on each difficulty (since your character stats carry over) is fun and relatively easy.

And none of you see that as a boring looking game? Seriously?

How so Alucard? Or rather, what makes this boring and similar games like DMC, Bayonetta, God of War not boring?

It's got the awesome cheesy exploitation vibe, and if it's like previous games will have addictive grinding and leveling mechanics. That's good enough for me. Hopefully better multiplayer than the previous one though.

For one the enemy AI is pretty much zero. They also move sloooooooooooooow. All the games in this series were the same.

yeah... just because it's the same genre doesn't make it fun. the AI and level design is probably the worst in the genre, the combat system isn't deep or interesting, and there are tons of technical issues. these are poorly designed games that haven't gotten much better from the first games budget title release. only now they expect full retail price.

They're budget games in the US too. And while they have obvious problems, they're still plenty of fun for some of us.

this one isn't a budget title. i can understand liking some bad games for fun, but not @ full price. i'm really picky when it comes to dmc-style action games though, so i probably wouldn't even bother with this even if it was budget priced :P

It's not a budget title in Japan (nor was the last one) because, I assume, the 360 market is so small over there. I'm sure if somebody picks it up for the US it'll be cheaper.

Its not the market, its the publisher/developer thing. Their EDF games were always budget price too. Even their new one. Sadly that game turned out SHIT. Previous 2 EDF games were absolute gold. New developer so no surprise. Out of curiosity, how many of you that want to play this game have played all the God of War games.

I've got this game preordered (ouch, expensive) as I'll be covering it at Co-Optimus.

Expensive ? Did you pre-order the regular version (not that I'm aware there's a special edition or something) ?

eastx

Just the regular version. It's expensive because Japanese games simply cost more than American games. A regular US game is $60, whereas this game is $86.49 + shipping from Play-Asia (http://www.play-asia.com/Onechanbara_Z_Kagura/paOS-13-71-br-49-en-70-4erh.html).

Also, here's the translated Achievement list (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=353011).

Whoa... that IS expensive ... Hope this game is good enough to justice that price tag.

That's not very likely.

That's not very likely.

Says the guy who will play literally anything! Thankfully, the site paid for the game so I'm not burdened by the cost. But I've put more than 20 hours into the first 360 title (addictive despite its problems), and Kagura looks much better.

You spent 20 hours walking in circles hitting slow moving zombies? Seriously?

I've toldja before, I like games with good grinding mechanics. That's what Onechanbara and EDF 2017 have. After I beat the game for the first time, I did turn off the sound and start watching/listening to TV shows while I play. It's a lot like grinding in an RPG, but with the zombie action element. But I'm not just grinding - I'm working on the game's quests, some of which are bitch-ass hard. I recognize it's not for everybody, but some of us do enjoy it.

huh? looks like Darkworks (Cold Fear/Alone In the Dark: The New Nightmare) were developing a Onechanbara game at one point before they closed down.

Here is my Onechanbara Z: Kagura review (http://www.co-optimus.com/editorial/982/page/1/co-op-international-onechanbara-z-kagura.html). It's Co-Optimus' first Japanese game review/column, so hopefully everybody likes it.

Wheres your score! Or a paragraph on whether you thought it was good. I DEMAND IT!

Heh, you're supposed to read the whole thing and judge from that... I thought about having a proper closing paragraph but we strangely decided to abstain since it's presented as a column rather than an official review. It'll probably still come to the US and get a review then...

But out of 10 I would score it a 7 (and its predecessor a 4 or 5).

I read it, have played it some too, but talking about each part of the game are like different thoughts on this or that. A little paragraph or two at the end would be good in my eyes as a collection summary of those thoughts. You know like....halo has dull gameplay, non existant writing for story, and also shit level design. Its poor compared to duke nukem forever. LIKE THAT!

Good point!... Up until that last bit. Maybe I'll go back and add one later.
