Kojima getting Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC coz he's twice the awesome

Word has just gone out that living legend Hideo Kojima will be given this high distinction at the 2009 Game Developers Choice Awards. Kojima's so good at what he does that he only needs one lifetime to get his second lifetime achievement award. The first one he received was awarded by the MTV Game Awards last year.

And Is it any wonder? If Metal Gear wasn't already the obvious reason, the guy was behind Snatcher, Policenauts, and Zone of the Enders. The event director of the GDC says of Kojima:

For years, Hideo Kojima’s contributions to game development have broken new ground and inspired the community to think about creating games in never-before-imagined ways.

From giving birth to the stealth action game genre to showing game makers how to interact with their players by breaking the ‘fourth wall,’ Kojima’s achievements make him an obvious choice for an award that in previous years has gone to luminaries including Sid Meier, Shigeru Miyamoto, Richard Garriott, Eugene Jarvis, Mark Cerny, Gunpei Yokoi, Yuji Naka and Will Wright.

That's a mighty fine list of names Kojima's entering into (except maybe .... but anyway), and he fully deserves the honor. Kojima will be giving his keynote lecture, "Solid Game Design: Making the 'Impossible' Possible" after the awards ceremony of the GDC, which will be on March 26.

Deserves it for being awesome. He'd deserve it more if he made ZOE3.

anyone getting a life time achivement award for so few games is stupid .. and what's more stupid is getting one when still so young and still alive .. he might go on to make a right load of old shit from now on .. lol

life time should be life time . maybe if they should change the rules for such an award .. and when you collect it they put a magnum to the back of your head at the same time .. so we can remember them for the great stuff they did, and not the crap they did later in life .. /cough/ Deniro & Pacino /cough/ ..

anyone getting a life time achivement award for so few games is stupidI agree with that.

His Boktai games are nothing legendary, Policenaughts isnt known outside Japan, so really you're looking at MGS and ZoE. His achivements/praise ratio reminds me way too much of George Lucas.

The best thing about Koima is he owns. He actually focuses on story where as most out there toss you into an empty game. Thats why he deserves it. He puts a crapload of effort into his games, not just stage design and character design. He might not be old but he's been making games constantly for 25 years or so. Apart from Boktai, ZOE, a string of MGS games ( the latter ones hailed for their writing and technical achievements), Policenauts, he also did Snatcher and a few Tokimeki games. You'll find very few out there who have hits with every series they've created and also writes/directs them.
