If you're referring to SSBM characters, I think you should've included Samus in there.

I voted for Mario and Link. Mario edges out just a bit over Link due to the nostalgic factor. I grew up with Mario, but my first Zelda was Ocarina of Time.

Kid Icarus (Pitt)

If Nintendo were smart they'd make one for GameCube. If I were in charge, first i'd have the same people who designed the characters and enemies for Zelda - a Link to the Past do those designs and then hire an animation studio (one like Studio Ghilbi) to do all the animation with the designers' imput. Then NOJ would do the level design and make it all (or most of it) 3D and make it look highly-detailed because the textures would just be paintings detailed like in the backgrounds of an animated movie (see Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, or any other similar). As in the first Kid Icarus, the first parts of the level would be similar only far more cinematic but only in select parts while the rest would play similar (but enhanced) to the original but a little more open-ended (more freedom of movement) and there wouldn't just be 'this stage goes up and this one sideways'. It could go in any direction and change at a whim and can even have some stages where Pitt rides Pegasus. When he'd come to the dungeon entrances, first there might be a guardian. Then when he'd enter one it would be similar to Metroid but (again) some parts would be cinematic for effect. I'd marry the cinematics to the gameplay so well it would be seamless (not confusing) and would, at the same time, look absolutely astonishing. The bosses would be a lesson in animation and design, as well as ingenious patterns (or absence of one) that would make it look like a pandemonium of action to really increase tension. Everything would be so well done it would be scary.

That would rock too hard.
