Is it me or do I find Tekken 4 far more superior than VF4.
Gfx - T4: No antialiasing problems, no flickering & PROGRESSIVE SCAN SUPPORT!
VF4 : Shimmering, antialiasing problems.
Sound - T4: Great sound. Very solid environmental effects.
VF4: Hmmph. Tin-can sound.
Gameplay - T4:Solid gameplay
VF4 : This is where VF4 may win T4 by a little bit :)
Another thing is that T4 rewards you with great CG endings (longer than previous Tekkens) while VF4 just gives you some same old ending credits :(

I've always preferred Tekken to Virtua Fighter. But a lot of people say that VF4 plays a lot smoother than before, and a lot of Tekken fans like it too. So I'll pick up VF4 when it comes out here in the UK next week. But I'm enjoying playing my Jap Tekken 4 right now, and having a lot of fun learning the new characters.

I always consider Tekken 4 a better game than VF4 is. In fact, I never really got into the VF series. Many people say that VF4 is more "realistic" than Tekken 4. If you think about it though, the only reason that we play videogames is because inside of videogame world, anything can happen. We want to defy the physics and many other restrictions in the real world. So what is the point to make a realistic fighting game? SF would never be popular if there was no hurricane kick or fire ball. Also, VF4 isn't that realistic at all. In order to be destructive in that game, you have to learn how to juggle your opponents to do more damage to them. It is just like Tekken 4 but air juggle in VF4 isn't as obvious as in Tekken 4.
Now, I am not saying VF4 isn't a good game. I have put several hours into the game. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is just that I like Tekken 4's flashy combos and fast paced game play. One thing that Tekken 4 kills VF4 is the character design.

I sometimes wonder what people mean when they say VF is more realistic then Tekken. I've found VF to be far less juggle friendly then Tekken.
I never really liked Tekken much. But I like Tekken 4. It feels alot better. I'll have to admit I've liked VF moer since I started playing the first one in the arcades. Totally blew me away. But for VF4, the gameplay is definately better then Tekken4. Feels very nice. And despite the jaggies, VF4 graphics are better then Tekkens. Theres more detail in the characters, the clothes, the ground, the entire arena. Even the draw distance is superior to Tekken 4. Both are excellent.

I have to seriously disagree with all of you. The Tekken series has always been geared towards the more casual gamer with the dial a combo and botton mashing characters. The casual gamer enjoys it because of the flashy characters and pretty FMV endings. The music has always been well done too.
Tekken hasn't changed very much since Tekken 2. And I'm sorry to say part 4 isn't anything different. It just looks like TTT with better graphics and a normal background. Not that horrible rotating stage thing. It's gameplay is just tired and uninspired. You would think Namco would grab a few people from the Soul Calibur team to make some sort of new defensive moves or actual combos.
VF4 just has so much. The gameplay is so deep, it is basically unrivaled by any other game in the genre save the Street Fighter series. The graphics and music are on par with everything else in the industry and the multitude of options are unequaled. Part 4 made the game much more fast paced and user friendly, but still kept it open to newbies with the incredibly in depth training mode.
If their was a game with the Tekken characters and VF characters with their own fighting engines. A master of VF would simply defeat a master of Tekken with the pleothra of defenses and offenses he could throw at the tap-tap Tekken player.

i dont know bout that.. my cousin have VF4..he's been playing it for weeks now..he got the game when it first came out...two nights ago i went to his house to try out VF4..he beat me two in a row..then on the third fight i beat him.we played around 7 battles and i beat him 4 out of 7...and thats saying alot, cuz the only VF game i played was VF kids for Saturn...Now lets go back for a month when my friend bought the import T4. me and my cousin(same cousin with the VF4) went to my friends house to check out the game..but before i go on, i would like to tell you all that i've never played T4 yet..the last T game i played was TTT, which i got really good at playing..ok now back to the story.. when me and my cousin got to my friends house, we didnt waste anytime and went straight playing T4.. i played my cousin around 13 games and i won every single one.. i beat him on every round and my life is still around 70% all the time i play him.. so as for post above where it say that a VF master would simple defeat a tekken master..i disagree with that...just my 2 cent$...=)

I wouldn't exactly call him a VF master after only 2 weeks. I purchased the game at launch and have been working with Akira. Man, his combos almost seem impossible. After you pull one off though its incredibly satisfying. It's like basketball, after so many years of trying to dunk, its incredible when you finally pull it off. ;)

VF4 does feel different to the other versions. And the thing is most of the characters in the game are pretty balanced. Most. They all have alot of advantages and disadvantages. Though I'd like to know which characters you used in Tekken to beat him.
About Street fighter being deep... No. King of Fighters makes SF its little bitch in deep gameplay. The characters have double the moves. Majority of people keep picking Ken and Ryu or Akuma in that series.

Tekken 4 , the moves are more spectacular. The game contain more violence...

Your right about that. Have you evered player Street Fighter III: 3rd Impact? It ranks right up with KoF '99 Evolution as one of the deepest 2D fighters I have ever seen. Mastering the parry system is a thing of beauty. :D

I couldn't agree more with Wolf.
I think VF has the deepest tactical aspect in any fighting game, plus feels very smooth on the martial arts part. I've been doing lots of martial arts throughout the years, and reckon VF4 comes the closes to tournament fighting than any other fighting game. It makes you have to think so fast, anticipate your opponent a lot, plus know all the situations that are possible to occur by heart to be able to pull off a decent gaming. I've played Tekken VERY much, I must admit that, and I might even be better at Tekken when playing people in the arcades in japan than when gaming Virtua Figher. There is just something about VF that is so great, being able to pull off various combos and anticipate your opponent gives you such a kick and thrill you never experience in other fighting games. VF4 is exactly how you want to see martial arts if you ask me.

I play Akira too. I bought parts to a real arcade stick when I was at Tokyo Game Show in october. I've put it together now and it works wonderfully. Able to pull of some excellent combos with Akira, plus do some cool kankoku-stepping as well.
You play a lot in the arcades?

I'll have to admit 3rd Impact was a much nicer game in the SF series. Quite nice. Although 99 was not one of my favourites sadly. 2001, now theres a proper sequel!!
I can't wait till I get to play Capcom vs SNK, made by SNK this time and not Capcom. God knows when it'll be out, but it'll rock.
Chief Gutti my man you actually have an arcade board!? And I agree, if their is one game I would have to say resembles actually tournament martial arts fighting its VF4. It makes you think so much about what kind of offence you want to take the person down with or how you are going to manage your defensive. Just crazy. And Akira is one crazy character to master! I've been at it for like 4 weeks and haven't perfected everything yet!
And Alucard, I unfortunately haven't been able to play KoF2k1 yet. The last I played was Evolution and Dream Match for the DC. Capcom vs. SNK was all right just not my taste. The tag teaming thing just doesn't work well in that game. :P

Errr...Anyone who gets beat 4 out of 7 has no right to be called a master. I'll go out on a limb here and say you cousin is a casual VFer. Owning the games doesn't make you a master at them. Mastering them makes you a master.
I've always been a fan of the VF series, and it's no different here. I personally like VF4 more (of course, I've never played Tekken 4 yet, but it always seems too mainstream and not as many things to do. I like the more realistic fights of VF more I guess) I've had the game since launch and I still have a lot of stuff to do. To me, if a game is keeping your attention this long, it must be great.
*side note: by no means am I saying that Tekken 4 isn't going to be good. I think it'll be a good game, but IMHO, I like VF4 more. Just wanna make sure no one gets the wrong ideas.

I'll have to agree with that till this day!
Besides, T4 is utter crap for me. Bored me to tears...as did T5 after it. But T5 i was able to stand for a bit longer.

To say one king rapes another is ludicrous.... In the 3-D realm of fighters most people put either Tekken or Virtual Fighter at the top, so I think the ass rapeage is a bit hyperbole of you.

I still love Tekken 4, I liked what they did with the interactive backgrounds, too bad the action becomes so fast paced that you really never use them, if they somehow managed to create free movement system that allows you to run away more easily, but that would change the entire game structure and would make it look like power stone or something....

in my opinion that it's entitled to myself!! I love Tekkenand VF4EVO sucked so much that it really hurted to play it!! no real long combos ,boring gameplay, turtle-paced fights.naah, it really sucked as a whole thing.

Turtle paced fighting?
Tekken with its clunky animation, shitty 2 hit kill combos, unbalanced chars, and having most of the chars have the same moves.
now thats a classic fighting games, now just put all the moves in a pre-configured button smashing pattern and you have Tekken. :) .

Yeah Vf ass rapes tekken. You guys keep saying vf4 evo but, if you guys play vf4 Final tuned which is a totally different game imo then the difference between tekken and vf are abundantly clear. Trust me. Assrapage.
Although Tekken 4 imo was one of the better tekken games honestly too bad tekken fans cried and bitched that tag shit didn't work so namco in their infinite wisdom decided to bring back tekken 3/tag characters. Ohhh deviljin is just like T3 jin..... ugh... also i'll give tekken the nod on their throw counter system. Its not as twitchy as people might think.

Can't see how Tekken 4 is being compared to Virtua Fighter 4
VF4 is one of the deepest 3d fighters i've played ever
tekken 4 doesn't even come close but if we were talking about tekken 5 it would be a different story
