Defusing bombs using the stylus
Accessing security camera displays to spy on your mates
Locking parts of a level by installing a new lock code.
Spray paint messege on wall using marker spray
Guiding a nikita missile in real time using virtual display on nikita launcher.
All the time 2nd screen is not used it could be a map display or a radar display.
X-ray device display, (look i never noticed that hidden room behind wall, blow it up!).
Blowing out a fuse??? if you blow hard enough lol
Kissing your screen lol, you never know,
Voice control when close to a team mate, and make a plan. (or die muthafucker die die)
Learning to scratch on tha decs!!!< good for a parrapa type game.
DONT TOUCH THE BIG RED BUTTON

Key hole display when in third person, (so you can still see your enemies sneak up on you)
Remote piloting a robotic rc with attached camera, which you can view (you could also attach a proximity mine to it)
Codec, display for use with team mates, scan your image in.

In a mario kart game, a power up that can give you rare view display.
Poke someone in the eye!!
Pet you pokemon/tamagochi (can be installed function for diamond and pearl when game cartrige is in slot)
snooker game function ( eg, tap the stylus too low on the white?- it jumps!, screw backs, etc) snooker games feel-
crap to play due to the idea of pressing a button to hit the ball, This gameplay style will mean added strategy and multiplayer if works good.
CASINO GAME you can play against mates wirelessly, wheel of fortune- yes you can really turn the wheel. When playing poker, you can see your hand on bottom screen and the layed down cards on top screen. select the card by hand you want to put down.
If your sitting on a bus dowstairs after school your DS detects his upstairs, "play multiplayer."

Thats all i could think of off my head.

Got anymore fun game play gimmicks that might make simpler gameplay......

I could think of a ot of things, mostly for stealth games...but when I do, I think..."Crap, the games I am thinking of are better suited for home consoles, not handhelds!"

but with a home console you do not have 2 screens which changes the gameplay dynamic somewhat.

i consider myself at time's a highly mobile person,

and other times i just like to kick back,

anyway! i have a busy life right now, and all the gaps are constantly filling, so my interest in games that are fast paced and mobile is due to not having loadsa time on my hands.

i wish i was retired!!! i could play games to the end of my life.

but the ds is here now so i think developers should make the best of it,

wishful thinking?, i just want to expand the possibilities so we can know what to expect from a console with lots of potential. this will craft our objective demand for games that we want to play for fun!!!

Very True. But when I start to think of how I'd like to use the stylus, I think of puzzle solving mostly. Many things you already mentioned like:

-Cutting wires, or attaching wires to create/dismantle a bomb.
-Doing a paper rub to find out what was last written on a pad of paper (Big Lebowski reference!)
-Maybe using multiple styluses to solve a puzzle.

A lot of techniques to use on Stealth action games like Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid....or a Batman game. :D Problem is, those games are better suited on a large screen than a small portable, with a good sound system. I mean, it could be done on a DS...but it'd pale in comparison to what the game could have been on a console. There's the rub. I'd hope that the idea of a touchpad be included on the next gen controllers....

It makes you wonder what that guy was talking about on the phone, lol.

yeah! I gotta say the gameplay would pale a bit!!

but for me, i think multiplayer could make up for that,

that and holding the screen as close to my face as possible,

also as its mobile, the sound sytem option??
i dont think strapping a subwoofer to your back will help (but there would be some cool vibrations :D ).

logitech portable speakers may help a little bit. but thats mobile gaming for you.

also, i did'nt truly have stealth games in mind as they use complicated gameplay mechanics that wont do so well on a portable, just like Hideo kojima thinks.
but something less complicated like Golden eye maybe a possibility.

complex games will be too confusing on a little screen, so thats why i like the chunky colourful style of N64 games in that era.

I wonder to my self would zelda OOT work on the DS?....not when you want to shoot a golden skull spider off a wall face far away using your bow n arrow, it will feel too limited.....

though then again, they could use the bottom screen for a "close up view" through Zelda's squinting eye!

thats an altered gameplay dynamic, expressed through DS's new functionality.

I'm thinking now of creating a new company, that gathers people's views of how games should be played, and submit them to the games development houses's, all copyrighted of course for free.

Hideo kojima wanted people's ideas for MGS2, thats probly why MGS3 is such an improvement for the people at home.

-Doing a paper rub to find out what was last written on a pad of paper (Big Lebowski reference!)

^^ see theres a cool idea! its those sorts of things that make me excited,
so game iv'e seen on screens only involve rolling, rubbing, creating paths in mid air, slingshot's.

we need better and more seamless implementation so the extra fuctions feel more natural In-game!!!

we need ideas because through word of mouth, simple but exciting idea's can find theyre way to the people with connections,

(and I am not paranoid about idea theft because it happens regularly in the industry on a magnificent level, if your not in the industry, theres not as much chance to get screwed)

so if you have any idea's put them here so we can make a little database we could expand and develop......

more ideas for ds fuctionality

imagine a scene like in metal gear solid when snake and merryl are in the corridor before mantis, you might have to actually kiss her on the screen to advance with the game, imagine the horror of many gamers, its cruel and funny. or kissing your partner in the sims lol

Finger painting

Cut vegetables in the Sims while cooking (stylus), add salt/pepper, stir the pot using stlus, add vegetables, turn knobs on cooker to adjust head (knobs on touch screen) , prepare a chicken marinade with finger, put in the oven!!-(Lower screen)

Alternate views,
See 1st person view of two characters looking at each other in the separate screens

Display FMV?s in real time while in game (on second screen)

Bowling using stylus from bottom screen to top (rolling/throwing objects)

Sword slashing game (2nd person samurai!!!)

Image close-ups, (Zelda- opening chests, flick open locks using finger)

Pick-locks using stylus
Special Key shaped piece of plastic themed stylus for turning keys!! (Good for kingdom hearts DS or Zelda)

Pac-man, (path maker-stylus)

Upside down play!! Lol

Opening doors using fingers, ala resident evil!- good for suspense.

Opening sliding doors by sliding them with finger

Rearranging physical objects, or accessing inventory options using stylus or finger, (think ragnarok)

Ragnarok online DS

Climbing ladders (imagine the premise?FINGER MAN)

Air hockey via wireless (wicked ideas man)

Cheap wireless download games like above^^^ :)

Oekaki star 2 tablet painting program for internet galleries or to show friends!! ; P

New street fighter control mode, touch pad can help with complicated rounded arrow moves

Using stylus to pin point in a crosshair sniper mode,

Making dagger marks on trees using stylus in mmporg shootem-ups

Super Sumo smash brothers (knock other opponent off screen while attempting to save your own using the stylus)

In bomber man, flick bombs at opponents and move crates and scenery.

Themed switches for second screen, light switches, trap door panels, etc etc

Whistling a tune as a password, like ocarina of time wind flute,

Holding a candle to the wall to illuminate messages, hieroglyphs- mummy or tomb raider style, stylus

Breath quietly to avoid capture, or being killed by aliens gruesomely

Simultaneous 3rd person and first person views, first 3rd/1st hybrid (good for resident evil clones)

Gran-turismo real time game play and with replay visuals in real time in second screen (who wants to see a car rare end for an entire race)

Mortal kombat battles, smash somebody through ceiling and end up on top screen

Spy satellite telescope display, spy on enemy territory on RTS, view in second screen

Big air pan view in snowboard games when in a jump. on second screen

In games like burnout, when you score a takedown, your rival?s crash is displayed on second screen while still in gameplay

The Sims- a first person view on one screen, and the active 3rd person view in second

Dynasty warriors- battle map in one screen and battle highlights as they happen in same screen

Gitaroo man 2

In worms when you have to actually blow up, you actually slide the tnt box handle button

Assemble broken items using touch screen, tomb raider style

Convince another character in story driven games that you?re tired, by yawning into the microphone, loud enough to prove to her.

Program your favourite beat em up character to scream insults in battle, and finishing move ending voice recording, "YOU GOT OWWWNED BITCH"

If your doing a finishing move in a RPG, you must slash the enemy between the marked lines to score a higher hit damage, much like trigger in ff8 except your actually slashing with stylus.

Boost your aeons by making fast circles on touch pad

Make ripples in water by touching the screen

Light a fire by rubbing 2 sticks together fast.

heres another idea that could work katamari damacy

in the bottom screen could be a virtual rolling sphere, that can be tilted with your finger, allowing you to see/control your ball in the top screen, adding really precise control- with extra added interactive fun......

even messanic should agree this game-play dynamic could make the game a whole lot funner.
